So I thought I was all ready to fabricate a drag link with a heim joint on one side and a tie rod end on the other... to fit this dana 44 front end and this steering box from a later IFS toyota....

I had to take the axle off again to put in degree shims...

But then the pitman arm did not fit. It wouldn't go on. I think the splines are different.

Are there different splines???

The steering box has 50 regular splines. The pitman arm seems to have about 36... with a wide flat "key" spline every 90 degrees.

The pitman arm has markings: 2088    2     B1B on one side... A05 26      5952-040-11 on the other

to be quite honest   that doesnt look like a toy pitman arm
if ur lookin at gettin one  look at a pick n pull    or order one from a place that deals with only toy steering like this
http://www.trail-gear.com/highsteer.html
and if ur gonna run a heim   ur gonna have to drill it

It doesn't fit... but I was hoping that it was because it was the wrong arm... and that all the other Toyota's were the same.

I caught some crap over at Pirate for the "unbraced spring hanger" the "nun killing welds" and the "the straight cut edge steering box plating that would likely crack the frame at the welds.......if the welds held up."

So now I am contemplating bracing the spring hanger, redoing the steering box plating, and redoing all the welds. Better to catch crap than kill nuns.

I need some photos...

I have a flux core wire feeder... but it is only a 110. I'm going to grind the welds off, strip the paint and cut a groove down the weld and redo it with a 220 wire feed.

I got my plates today for the steering box!

They dont look half bad for a 110v flux core weld. But your on the right track now. Stay with a 220v mig machine. The gas wont really matter for you, either CO2 or mig mix will work just fine. If you have a choice Id use .030 wire opposed to .035 if not no biggie. Nun Killer taz Now thats gooood stuff right there! LOL
