Bought a Winch for a great price. Now the question has come up. Do I need two batterys to power this or would just leaving the motor running be fine?

I think it depends on what kind of wheeling your doing. If your doing any adventure stuff with a lot of accessories I think Id haul another battery around. Start stacking lights, inverters, winches, Stereos, GPS's, Tv's, air pumps, microwaves, ... well you get my point. Do you have to have a second battery, No. But it would be nice to have one, just incase? Sure.

Maybe. I seen your ad a while back, I'll keep it in mind. My dome light got stuck on in the jeep and killed the battery (Yellow Top), So now I'm charging it back up from stone dead.

What would you of done if you were in the middle of the desert alone? Back ups are nice with an isolation switch.

LOL The extra battery isn't as heavy as the passenger you would carry with you for that push start. Not to mention your extra battery wouldn't be grabbing beer out of your cooler.

if you have the extra $$ I say run the extra battery. I just put together a small trail welding kit so I can hook up some batteries to arc weld. If you had two batteries, you would be one step ahead of the game. Although, you might not have had as many welding repairs on a trail as I have has ;)

Maybe you could start an on board welder thread and show us what youve done? Sounds interesting...

You hook the batteries up into a 24v system and you are good to go. Bob Neal at Bill Signs Trucking uses this set up and for his welding leads he uses heavy duty jumper cables.

You would think the batterys might pop (burn up) under the load of welding for any lenght of time?

He was using deep cycle batteries and of course you can add another battery and go to 36v. You obviously can't weld for hours but I know he talked about welding for +/- 30 mins on 2 batteries
