Post Something, Anything'

« on: December 30, 2008, 07:04:55 PM »

After going on 3 runs, i think i have enough clues that someone should be enough to diagnose my problem. because i don't know Doodie about engines.
.
Main Problem is , while off-roading Only'... re-starting my motor after sitting for 5 to 15 minutes it seems to be "loaded up" and i have to race the engine to clean it out and it only takes about 10 rev's or so to fix it and it always has so far.
.
first week out i was deep in dunes and had to pedal to metal' it just to get around , so at first i though it was due to heavy pedal syndrome.
.
second week out was slow n go ,never more than 1/4 throttle, but with some pretty good tilting and hill climbing so i thought it was from angles and inclines.  (also in the Dunes)
.
last week with the SCUFF bunch , on the first trail in, it still did it, 1/4 throddle and it was no tilt, no inclines, no heavy pedal.
.
so it seems to be just from jiggling about on easy but washboard roads.
.
it never ever has loaded up once during regular city driving.......NEVER !!!
.
but does it almost every time i stop and re-start while off-raoding..
.
So thinking Crab' ..  Or a plug fouling for some reason, but kinda ruling out electrical ?
.
suppose to be a fresh motor, about 14,000 Mi....95' grad chief' Str' 6 .no mods...doesn't smoke while I'm clearing it out, and check engine light has never come on...and empty to full tank of gas doesn't matter, or where I buy the gas.
.
it has never skipped a beat on the street.
.
if its not something you can't explain in Layman's terms and I might be able to check , who do you guys use for auto repair thats in or near El Cajon.
But It wont do it for them, it will run fine ! so there's nothing to diagnose ?  and with no check engine light data to read, all they have to go on is what i've told you..
.
Any Questions that might help ya............ Post it up !

Simple stuff first... Check all plugwires are snapped on and not arcing (sometimes the threaded end come off inside the cap) cap and rotor ect.. could be a bad (dirty) fuel injector ( run some cleaner through it ) If that doesn't help, put a chevy 350 tpi in it.  JK
Did your auto guy plug it into a scanner to look for a code?

I use Horsmen Automotive in Santee.

That sounds just like what Mikegyver is saying about the plugs. A buddy of mine just when through the same thing with a plug having a stripped cap. It would run fine and then sometimes he would have to just hammer the throttle to get the thing moving. he did all sorts of other things to try to fix it and he checked the plugs last.

I wouldn't rule out electrical yet..

I've seen a couple of mid '90's GC's with similar symptoms that turn out to be electrical problems, one was a screw in the ECM cover that was too long and when it bounced just right it would contact the circuit board and short out. I would also check the Idle Air Motor and Crank Sensor, especially the connections.

Another possibility is that you're getting too much, or not enough, fuel (flooding or leaning out) which would likely be an electrical issues, there is a slim possibility that you have a sticking or bad check valve in the FI return but I would start with electrical connections first.

Or we could just burn it to the ground  stuart

from what iv read    sounds like its running rich not lean
check the plugs     theck wires    but after that    make sure   when u turn it off   u turn it completely off   maybe u got the fuel pump going still   or maybe  check the compression in each cylinder    maybe u got some bad rings
