After 4 runs to the desert now, I'm already really tired of Air-n-Up, Air-n-Down,  Air-n-Up, Air-n-Down,
.
My Jeep is not my Daily Commuter and I'm not concerned with faster tire wear, or Bad tire wear unless it makes the tire unusable (Balance or vibration) before it time to replace them anyways. but I am concerned with any driving safety conditions that I'm not aware of yet. besides of course its not quite as safe as a properly inflated tire. (emergency Braking, quick steer condition)

   So wondering whats the minimum tire Pressure I can run on the street in hopes to find a happy medium that I can just leave the tire pressure at to avoid the   Air-n-Up, Air-n-Down, Air-n-Up, Air-n-Down,
.
I came home on 22 lbs twice now form the desert and really don't notice much of a difference. But would like to go even lower .I'm sure Allot of you have jumped on the street for a short hop just to get to the next Trail .So what LOW' tire pressure do you really notice a BIG' difference in on the road. and what Pressure would you use.... If you were Dumb enough like me to do it.  stuart

Keep in mind that this is just my own personl experience. No legal R & D here. When I had 35 inch BFG Mudders on my Tj. I would air down to 14 pounds in the desert and drive home like that often. I would take it a little slower than normal though.

I usually run around 9-10 psi on the trail so not airing up is not an option but you should be safe like hurleyup was saying if you take your time but remember the tire will heat up faster on lower psi

Lower pressure = more sidewall flex = more heat = boom...but you knew that. That was the deal with the Ford Exploder tires a while back. I heard the recommended psi was 27. Imagine a 4 door exploder loaded down with a family and all their junk going down the fwy @ 80mph in 120 heat on wimpy little street tires...gee, wonder why they failed?

On my stripped down (light) CJ I used to run in the teens from Super back to El Centro. Slower than usual and not in summer.

My Dodge is heavy, has 38" military surplus radial tires on it rated for 5,000# ea. I run it at 25 on the street/dirt without worrying too much. This weekend I did 15 front 10 rear for the sand and drove home. 30+ on trips of any length, and I don't drive it very fast.

not airing up isnt really an option for me either    i usually run 6-8psi when ever i go out   i ran it on 8  from boone to landers on the 247 hwy   for a beer run ice and gas run  didnt get above 35mph 
 i have driven from lytle creek to cleghorn on the 15 fwy  at 12 psi also  but movin at around 60
  run ur tires at 30 psi for a week and then drop to 20 the next   and ull tell the differance   

but if ur talkin about short distances on the road between trails u dont have to air up every time u get on the high way   just air down  run what ever trails u want  then at the end of the day   or weekend when ur ready to head home air back up   it takes 20 minutes of ur life   but at least u  wont really have to worry about loosing it due to u running low psi

Air down only when you need to, not every off-road trip requires airing down, be selective and adjust. And wheel with someone with on-board air  ThumbUp

I've gone a whole weekend running 8-10 lbs of air, but always air up for the drive home, even when I'm towing the Jeep back.

Besides. airing up is an important part of any run, it's the time to re-live the heroics of the ride, the extreme crawls and near-death experiences of treacherous terrain conquered by drivers in command of powerful machines

or something like that

I personally really hate airing up, but totally enjoy the company of the time. Of course if I would spend the money on a better system or Co2...

Or just get smaller tires  stuart
