Swapped out the axles with a dana 30 front off a JK X, while in 4wd the rig seemed to jump. I'm pretty sure the gearing is off ratio.

Looking around online it shows that a X comes with 3.21 standard, 4.10 optional. I have a Sahara that came with tow hooks, so i'm thinking it came with the "tow package", 4.10.

Either i'm out of my mind, or i'm going to have to swap gears. Anyone have input?

Easy way to figure this out is to jack the vehicle off the ground. Put a mark your tire where you can see it and count how many turns of the drive shaft it takes for the tire to make a full revolution. Do the front and then the rear and compair. If the front takes less turns then then the rear then your bumming. Good Luck.  Cheers

I happen to know someone (spiderjp = no comp access) who has been regearing JK's for a while now. I'll check with him & see what he has laying around, that he pulled out.

You can count the teeth on the ring and divide it by the teeth count on the pinion to get the gear ratio.

You could always go down to the stealership, give 'em your VIN and they can look up the build sheet...

Or, and anyone with a Jeep can do this, click here:

Request A Build Sheet

In the top box just ask for a build sheet for your Jeep, usually takes a couple of days and they'll e-mail one to you and let you know of any recalls, etc

I am not sure that "tow hooks" means you have the "tow package" (i.e., tow hitch) . . . what year is your Sahara?  I heard that the 4.10 gears were only in the '07's for the Sahara's and X's.  Some of the JK's came with 3.73 gears . . . so that might be in the mix.

I did what Steve suggested a couple of weeks ago.  Just provide Jeep with your VIN, and in a day or two, you get an electronic (emailed) version of your build sheet.  Pretty handy.

According to the stealership (thanks Steve) since i have an "early" 07 with the tow hooks, it's geared for a tow package (4.10) but they also don't know their  censored from their elbow.

I put in the request for a build sheet so time will tell. I'm almost at my 36K warranty limit, so I'm back to stock to let the dealer take care of everything covered.
I wish I had a TJ.
