FUEL The new gas prices have got me thinking about restructuring my life habits. Ive just got a Harley to run around town and do the quick little errands. It cost me $25.00 to fill that bad boy up. At 45 miles per gallon it good for a 225 mile loop. I do find myself asking, do I really need to get out and use a vehicle? If so, can I make one trip and get it all done at one time, instead of several trips.

This has ran over int my 4x4 thinking as well. I used to run to the desert for a day several times a month and not even give it a thought... That has all changed because of "FUEL". Now I plan the trip a lot further in advance. I drive down and stay for at least a couple of days and enjoy it. I go about half as often as the past years. But a very interesting thing is happening to me...  I find myself planning, talking about, and enjoying the adventure much more. The trip to the desert is as much a part of the fun as getting there. Now with SCUFF happening I'm looking forward, planning, and already enjoying the ride that hasn't even happened yet? The next run for sure will be the one that StvDiego posted as a night run in august. Thanks StvDiego for posting up a ride that already has my juices flowing... Cant wait! I think the new four letter word for me is going to be FUNN. How has the fuel prices changed your life?

Gas prices have hit me pretty hard. Being a college student I don't have that much money. I went from paying 40 bucks to fill all the way up to 70 bucks every week. So with the gas prices going up I just put 40-50 dollars in the heep and just don't drive on the weekends. If I do go anywhere its car pooling and if its close by I just ride my bike to the store or to a buddies place.

I used to drive the Jeep every day, but now, it's parked and I use my 4-banger Ranger for the daily driver. I find myself planning a lot more "one tank runs" and do a lot less wandering around in the desert.

I also picked up some extra jerry cans and fill them up in town before I go, mainly to avoid paying middle of nowhere gas prices when topping off or heading back.

The other big change is the RV. I swapped out the TH400 3-speed for a 700R4 4-speed hoping that the 30% overdrive helps out the mileage in that. Seriously considering a TBI mod or either a Vortec or even a diesel swap in the future, any of those should get me better mileage than the 350 with a 750cfm 4bbl on top of an Edelbrock Performer sucking down fuel that's in it now ;D[IMG]

My wife and I used to use our motorhome at least once a month and now it seems like its gonna be maybe once every three or four months. Kinda sucks but there really isn't much any of us can do. For us it just gives us more incentive to save $$ and look forward to maybe taking longer trips instead of just doing weekend trips. When I had my dune buggy we would go to Glamis once or twice a month in the winter time and I was able to go and come on about 250$$ in fuel and now it would be close to double that.
  OK, now I'm depressed..........................but I'll get over it :)

The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in
half and put it back in your pocket.
