Best Alarm to Protect your Investment?

As a result of several Stolen jeeps of late we were wondering what security systems work best for you all? I have a good friend who is a CHP Officer. He says that if you have a Rubicon, you might want to take the sticker off the hood. He thinks that is one positive thing you can do towards keeping your rig. We had a nice little TJ leave the drive way mid night a few months back, never to be found.  Just wondering if there is a super duper alarm that really works out there? This dosnt need to stay on the Electronic subject... if there is other deturants other than electrical post um up.

There is some truth to the Rubicon sticker, they are the most stolen Jeep after all, followed by yellow and red. Problem of course is the drivetrain in Rubicons. The Dana 44's, 241 and six-speed are well over $5000, and the real problem is not so much the (insert bad words here) who takes it but the (more bad words) who buys them knowing full well they're stolen.

So, what to do? I use an alarm system with a proximity system so that even if the top and doors are off the alarm will sound if someone reaches in past the sides which cuts off the engine.

Then of course the good old fashioned club backed up by the lock and chain through the steering wheel.

Part three is a cut-off switch for ignition and fuel.

The reality is that short of sleeping in it and never leaving sight of it the best you can do is make it easier to pass it up and go on to an easier target. A determined thief will get it no matter what you do.

Thats exactly what I was gonna say. I personally think an ignition kill and some sort of fuel shut off is about the best thing anyone can do and also some good insurance.

Hey Stv, with that proximity system does it get set off pretty easy??? Like if you had the top off and a leaf fell in from a tree would it go off??? I'm just curious because I thought about getting an alarm like that and I just wasn't sure.

I have the Autopage in both Jeeps. It uses a "sensor" that mounts inside the cab area, good places are up behind the dash, under the center console and so on. It's a microwave sensing unit that is adjustable to the vehicle. Once it's in the installer will adjust it to the specific vehicle. Mine is set so that if the top and doors are off a person could walk by and the alarm would not sound, but, if they stopped and leaned in for a look, or even stood within two inches of the body, a warning would sound. If they moved closer, or just walked up and reached inside, the alarm sounds which cuts of the ignition. It also has switches on all three doors and the hood.

It takes something significant to set it off, I've tossed small items in and it "chirped" but didn't go off, throw your jacket in there and it goes to town. But more than once I've forgot it was on and walked up and off it goes. It is also a vibration sensor so if someone came and leaned on it or was messing around near the bumpers it would also sound.

A good system, you can find them >$200 installed on sale in San Diego, comes with two remotes. Had mine put in at Car Audio Heaven on Rosecrans near Sports Arena Dr.

car alarms are not going to stop someone that wants your jeep. when was the last time you heard a car alarm go off and ran over to see what was going on? most cars just get the battery cable cut and than pulled onto a flat bed. a jeep has one of the easiest batteries to get to. a kill switch is the best thing you can do and also the cheapest.

I would think the LOW JACK is best cause if they want their gonna get it so at least they have like a 85% recovery rate    Plus wouldnt be cool to bust they people as they are starting to take it apart or as they are selling it or any situation where u get to shoot them

I installed a Grant removable steering wheel in my Sami. No wheel, no steal. Unless they tow it away.

The Lo-Jack is a good system, problem is by the time they get on it the vehicle has a good chance of being inside a warehouse in TJ in pieces. I had a car stolen many years ago that had Lo-Jack, I was lucky, the CHP stopped the car at the border as it was about to go into Mexico. The only reason I got it back was because someone saw it being stolen and called me so they were on it immediately. One more minute it would have been gone forever.

Removing the wheel works to prevent most lowlifes from stealing your rig but if you have airbags it can be a challenge. But then, who would steal a Sami anyway?  ~clown  ~scooter

Probably the best alarm/cut-off around is the Ravelco. Remember that the "Not one vehicle ever stolen!" claim from Ravelco is followed by and asterisk:   * "by defeating a properly installed and utilized Ravelco".

As Hurley pointed out, all it takes is a flatbed and how many times have you seen a tow truck with a vehicle hooked up and the alarm going off?

and i agree a kill switch is the best method especially if u can hide it under the dash
