I posted this way back, but somehow I deleted the thread. I thought I had better put it back up since I have had a few questions as to its whereabouts of late. This FJ80 belongs to Sam Shaaya of Beverly Hills. Sam was running Pismo when things went bad quickly for him. He ended up rearranging his roof while popping out some glass. After escaping any serious injury he decided that if he was going to play in the sand box again he needed a cage built for his rig.

After spending some time with Sam and discussing all the options, we decided to do the up grades on his rig in a couple of stages. Stage one was to tie in a new front Exo- Skeleton / Bumper into the already installed sliders and attach a winch mount as well. We also wanted to build a functional but attractive cage that wouldn?t interfere with the passengers in anyway. He also wanted to use the floor space in the back of the vehicle for his coolers etc. along with some way to carry a full sized 40? spare.

The build required the bending and tacking the cage in place. We then lopped off the old roof at the base of all the pillars. We then finished  welding of the cage and the donor roof was installed. The new windshield was installed and back to B.H.'s he was. So with out saying any more here are some pics of the cage build...

The before shots...

That's some good looking work. Is that the shop over off Bancroft? What are you using to bend your DOM?

One more Q.  Am I seeing that right, the cage is attached to the frame and the body?

It will be here this weekend again, I think. He was headed down two weekends ago and he had a fuel pump issue, had to return home and order parts. Got that fixed and start down this last weekend and found a new death wobble. had to return back to base camp again. Ive filled his slot, so this week is kind of my call? Ive got an early Bronco in here right now...

Yes the shop is on the corner of Bancroft and Olive.

Im using my DOM tube bending machine for the cages. Its a air over hydraulic bender made by Mitler Bros. Ive bent over 60 long travel sand car frames with it and its never missed a beat... Great machine. that is a 2" cage.

In the rear the cage is through the body to the frame. He made the decision to not worry about the body flex since it had been rolled so the other mount points are to a welded pad on the floor top going to the cage and the bottom going to the frame. Very rigid!

It made it in yesterday. Quite a monster for an FJ80.
