I'm thinking of putting the Tru Trac on my front axel. '02 TJ  dana 3o, also going to have 4:56 gears installed with. I thought /think the Tru Trac is a posi. I have since been told the Tru Trac is not a posi .
So If it is not a posi, and I know it is not a true locker, then what is it? Is it worth putting it in my jeep?
And also was told they break easily? I know alot of questions but is there anybody out there that has used the Tru Trac? Thanks in advance. eek

My personal opinion on a "locker" in the front would be: If you are always locked while in 4 wheel drive you will hate it. There is nothing worse than trying to turn while locked. If the Tru Trac is only locked on demand that would be better than a true locker up front. I went with ARBs they cost more but the driveability is great.

Thanks for the input. I agree don't want to be " locked up"  at all times in 4 x just when needed. That is why I was thinking of the tru trac ,it gives you a little something(I think) when it is needed-to a point.
Just want to make sure the product is worth the cash?

Depends on what you expect of your jeep. Hard stuff Locked forsur. Money an issue Aussie Locker 275 bucks your locked on demand. Also like OX Locker and Elocker by Eaton (1000+). Only a handful of times have I needed to shift out of 4wd to make a sharp corner (wouldn't have made the corner in the first place). For the money put in a locker you'll be happy you did. darn near the same price range.  EnoughAlready

My dad has a tru trac in the front and a detroit in the back.  He wishes he had a detroit sometimes in the rocks but likes the limited slip type action in the sand.

Hi, I have that same set up, detroit locker in back and detroit true-track in the front. Like the other fellow, I sometimes wish I had a locker in the front, but I chose the true-track help save the weak D-30 axles. When I need a locker I load the brakes and use the hand throttle and it works pretty good. The only other problem is in a v-notch situation, sometimes having the rear locked allows the rear to spin and drop into the notch. I think the only cure is good axles and selectable lockers at both ends. Rick.

Rick thanks for your input. I posted this topic about a month ago, and have since decided ( like you also mentioned) to save up and do it right-- selectable. Be happier in the long run. Thanks again and hope to see you on the trail.  Jeff

StJohn.....I have been in your shoes......I thought of savin to get new axles, gears, and lockers then I read up---- upgrades to upgrades---D35 to a D44 to D60 to Rockwells....but the money/time doesn't always fit the build plan......

I have found that almost any Jeep upgrade can be easily sold on either ebay or Craigslist and sells quick.....

I have an Assie and a Detroit and am happy for now......but the upgrade need is always there...

BUT

any locker improves the experience....
