I don't think I really need to say this around here but we all need to pitch in on keeping the trails open. I got this email today, figured it needed to be passed on.

Quote:
I noticed on the run the other night that 4 wheelers have been cutting new trails along the route up the mountain. This is surely going to cause pressure to be brought on the Forest Service to close the trail.

If you see others deviating from the established trail please remind them that cutting new trails and deviating from the trail can only harm the reputation of the 4 wheeling community and cause the Forest Service to close the entire trail. please encourage your friends to help keep trails open by staying on the established trail.  Maybe we need to volunteer to do some reconstruction.

Also, I was out yesterday and there's a lot of trash that needs cleaned up.

I seen these short cuts along the switch backs. most have been there sence the first time I've been on this trail (5+yrs) , recently people have been traveling them making them more odvious. while others are being over grown as nature takes them back. until someone starts a set of new tracks, then everyone has to see whats up there and turn around come back down.  most of them I believe are dead ended.

This is not a unique problem to this trail alone. We all need to remember just how tough the battle is to keep our lands open for wheeling. I took the name of the trail off on the original post to avoid the anti wheelers a location to go look. We will check it out and repair any damage done if that is possible. Please, Please, Please stay on the established roads and trails where ever you wheel. I know it sound harsh and un-cool but we have to monitor our wheeling areas our selves. If you see anyone tearing up our countryside get a license Number and description of the vehicles, get the info. to me and I can get it to the appropriate officials.   Thanks M.T.

It's not harsh or uncool. Stay on the trail or face the consequences. Pick up trash every time.

A new little issue has arisen to the surface. I spent the day at some friend's property. Here is the bone our access to the canyon cuts through their ranch, they have always granted this access but as of late some of our brethern have been cutting the fences and wheeling on PRIVATE PROPERTY trust me when I tell you all this they have a lot of political clout  I would not put it past them to get the access to the canyon trail closed if this keeps up. As of right now they have brought out 72 sticks of "K" Rail to start channeling people out of their property. The rail is not all set but it will be over the next few days it all painted with NO TRESPASSING on each piece. I am asking all of you to remember that they are the ones that generously donated the skiploader for the bronco extraction at Corral Canyon. they are a generous family and also my employer. It gives us all a very black eye when stuff likes this happens.
Remember that the Enviro Nazis eat this sort of thing up and we don't need to give them any bullets for their guns, lastly if I am out there I would rather not have to write down someones license plate and photograph them out there this could really suck.

Wow, I just realized I could modify jeff's post.

Anyway.....that makes me furious. Imagine if it was your property and people were trespassing on it. I'd be bent too. we must do everything we can to stop that behaviour, crakc down hard. pics and license plates is what it's gonna hafta be.

...and that's the problem. The people doing it are NOT our "brethren", they are criminals. I think we need to start pointing out to the public that real 4wheelers do not do that sort of thing. Posting it here on our boards doesn't get the word out to those who are doing it. I don't think they're part of the community and don't spend time on our boards. Signs might help, plamsa cut out of heavy plate so as to be vandalism resistant. It's more than likely kids with big tires out messing around drinking and burning abandoning stolen cars, that kind of thing. Not true 4wheelers.

Right, that's what I mean...we are assumed guilty but I think we need to work to correct that, find ways to differentiate ourselves from that behaviour.

There is enough "K" rail at the storage yard for about 4 miles they are serious about this issue.

hey at least they're rerouting people instead of blocking off access. I've never run that trail, guess I should try it.

A think a Trail Watch program like Neighborhood Watch would be a good idea.

You know those little wildlife cameras that you hide in the bushes and either motion or heat sets them off. How much are they to buy and anyone here know where I can get a quanity discount on them? Seriously...

That's kinda big brother-ish but a very good idea just the same.

Only thing with the wild life camera is the animals don't care that they are being photographed, where the trespasser will and if the camera is spotted it will disappear (flash or just seen) I had one for half a season. it disappeared  Cuss
