California Governor is proposing placing as many as 48 state parks in "caretaker" status, a move that would essentially close the parks to most public use. Included in the list are several San Diego County parks including most of Anza-Borreo Desert State Park. If you never have been, now is the time become a political activist, write to your state representaive(s), the Governer, everyone you can. The legislature needs to know the importance of parks and that there is a constituency that will hold them accountable. I met a lady who works for BLM last night and she said they're working on getting some emergency closures or something.

I would not mind that as long as it keeps trails open. Its still going to cost money to keep the parks closed and enforce that..

So Im wondering what would actually be closed in Anza Borrego? I'd think it would just be the visitor center and the main campground at Palm Canyon. Maybe the ranger station?

The real desert is not for the eyes of the superficial observer or the fearful soul of the cynic. It is a land which reveals its true character only to those who come with courage, tolerance, and understanding. For those, the desert holds rare gifts
