Hey guys just wondering if anybody can give me a tip on how to get the steering bar or drag link( if that is what it is called) off of the pitman arm. Need to remove pitman to install a drop pitman. Tried to get a puller on the ball joint end but just not enough room.If anyone has done this before I sure would appreciate some info. Thanks ,Jeff

Autozone should have a puller for rent/free. They charge a deposit so you will bring it back.

I have had a few that I have had to heat up with the torch even with the puller ... BFH, Puller, Torch... and a few Brews for mood swings!

Yeah  I hear you, got it soaking with PB Blaster should facilitate things. What I really need to do is get the draglink off the pitman first, and there is just no room to get a puller on it. Got all the suspension parts done on the front just need to deal with the steering part. then i can move to the rear and get this project finished. Maybe I will be wheelin' with you all by ------ Thanksgiving! I'm kiddin' , I think.

What are you working on (TJ?) if so most of the time you do not need a drop pitman arm. If you do, soak it with pb blaster with the puller on it with tention. After a little while hit it with a hammer and tighten the puller a little at a time. Eventually it will come off.

Hey thanks, I got the bugger off a couple weeks ago, a real -Censored-. I used my friends Snap on(snap off) pitman puller and broke it. But I got it off.
Why would you not need a drop pitman when doing a suspension lift on a TJ?  I did a 4" and the angle looked drastic?

Without the drop arm you are prone to bump steer and the famous death wobble. Cheers

I am running about a 4" lift with the stock pitman arm drilled for the TRE to set from the top. The stock on is desigend to bolt up from the bottom, I have zero issue with bump steer or death wobble. The biggest thing you need to look at is your drag link parallel to your track bar? If they match you will be fine without one, but if they are off then you may consider one.

x2 on the drop arm, don't use it of you don't have to. I've been running a 4" lift on a TJ for a couple of years now with the factory arm.

Try it without it first, unless you have some weird linkage geometry going on you won't need it.
