I am looking here to see if some of our members know the proper installation procedure to re-gear axles. I have a Dana 30 with an ARB locker and chromally shafts. I also have a Dana 44 to re-gear.

I have never conducted this repair and know how the clearances are very important.

I would like to install 4.10 or 4.56 gears.  I do still need to purchase the gears after I decide which to go with.

Second question:: Do I have to replace the open differential on the 44? It currently has 3.73 gears.

I've done a dana 44 before.  You need a dial indicator to set backlash.  Then it was just a lot of pulling the carrier in and out till I got it right.  And yes you will need a new carrier for 4.10 and up.
