So not that I have 1 tons I want to run a bigger tire. Due to having no money I have been looking into Military tires. From the info that I have found if I want to run anything bigger than a 38" I have to bump up to a 20" rim.
My main question is there a basic steel 8 lug 20" rim? Maybe a military rim? If anyone has info or can point me in the right direction to find more info I would appreciate it. Thanks

the 8 lug military rims come in a 16.5 and the 20 in rims that are military have the rockwell bolt pattern
and as far as i basic 20 in wheel i havnt really ever seen one other than the polished alumn from m.t.

I read on Pirate on how the military tires can be really dryrotted and the sidewalls give out. And I think Stazworks makes the wheels you would need

The BFGs we use on our trucks rot quick and develop flat spots. The tires are to stiff and have little sidewall protection. I thought about running some 37s before but changed my mind.

Did I hear my name? Never fear, the self-professed mil surplus tire expert has arrived. Pay attention, class. I got some cheap 20" alum wheels from Disco tire. They and my 44" x 12" wide mil tires are tenatively for sale. Military Michelin tires are affordable and durable and have good street manners compares to a swamper. My brother and I have been beating the snot out of multiple sets on multiple trucks for years. All you have to do is check the date codes. Mine are 325/85/16. 38"x13"x16" wheel. Load rating J = 5,000# @ 80 psi. These are the smallest ones, and if you go up from there, you do have to run 20" wheels. Note: mil tire beads 20" AND UP are too thick to properly seat behind the safety bead on civvy wheels. Mine worked good on my blazer unless I got below about 15 psi, then they would burp air in the front when I bound them up steering in the dirt notches, etc. The 16" beads fit properly. I ran the 38s on my blazer with little or no air on 7" or 8" wide wheels and they stayed on. I have the one on the dodge on 10" wheels so the tread will wear evenly on the street. Date code = last set of digits in the DOT number. 3506 would be 35th week of 2006. 509 would be 5th week of 2009. 356 would be 35th week of 1996 or 1986 or 1976..... No more than about 6 years old. You can also tell by squishing the tread blocks with your thumb. Compare the feel to a tire you know is good. Any questions?

Good year wrangler. dry rot and develop flat spots only if they sit for long periods of times they are harder than the baja, and not as aggressive tread wise
