Has anyone installed rock lights on their rigs? If so where is a good place to mount the front set. I think I've got the place for the rear lights but the front ones unsure.

I installed a couple of HID's from Kragen on a Bronco last week... They looked and felt like good quality lights... Brackets, wiring, lens cover, and lights for $113.00ea. I havnt seen them used yet but they look good? Any experience with these lights?

I don't think you need anything that pricey since these will mount under the jeep.I was thinking something along the lines of the 3" round rubber housed work lights since you'll only be casting the light a couple feet down

My bad I miss understood what you were wanting. Yeah the cheapies are the way to go there. We typically stuff them up high under the body any where where they are somewhat protected.

I have seen some guys put the lights by the body mounts underneith the car. I would think it would protect the lights from rocks. ???

Long night  ;D

I've got the Harbor Freight cheapies driving lights, $7 a pair with coupon, if they break (and they have) cheap to replace, tuck them up under the fenders in the front and under the rear frame

Picked up some from Wal Mart for $15 for the pair. Probably over kill but I wired in 2 pairs in the front, if it is to much then I can always remove the extra set. I still need to wire in the rear lights but thats another day.

Hey Paul, do you have any problems with no getting light out and to the side, like in the dark area outside the tire and then along the Jeep? Any ideas on putting a light on the sides, maybe up near the frame shining out and down to light up that area?

I just mounted some front rock lights tonight in about the same area you did and I'm thinking I need a "side" light and also working on a somewhere to mount a rear light for the extremely rare occasion where I may consider backing up  ~clown

The lights I have point to the side just barely enough for me,hard to see in the picture, but i would prefer a couple just under the seats that point more to the sides.  Only thing is all my wheelin friends that i've seen put them there always break them on rocks.  I think I'll follow your lead and get a pair of HF lights and try them out on the sides. Backing up is not an option, remember Bronco Peak?  ~eek

Bronco Peak? Why no, what happened there  ~clown

I mounted my first set up forward in the wheel wells, they never made it to sunset  ~oops

The latest incarnation is more up towards the coils but I still don't like the heavy shadowing outside of the tires and with the mount I just can't get a good angle, but then wadya expect for $4 HF lights. I saw a Jeep that had lights mounted up under the frame and towards the rear, seemed to have some slightly better protection, I might try something like that, but I'm thinking the HF work lights might have a little better survivability.

A kinda cool thing I ran across is these VisionX Rock LED Lights, retail is @ $100+ for the full set, how pimp would this be... ~punk

Not sure I want to spend a hundred + bucks but they get good reviews from users and seem real easy to install and the light pattern although more like a spot than a flood still puts out decent all around light. And of course they come in several colors, how cool is that???

What about those long light strips that the import guys put up under their cars? It seems that the strip would cut down on the shadows and also be protected easier. Also it would give off a softer light, less reflection.

If I spend a lot of money on HID's they won't be under my Jeep.  Thats a cool idea DC, or the antenna/whip on the back of quads or sand buggies I see running through the desert at night.   ~chris
