I know allot of the members here young motorcycle riders at home. I recieved this Email from Jan Mcgarvie today...

Folks,

We need to schedule a work day for the new Young Rider Training Area at Corral Canyon. The following dates are possibilities:

Sunday Sept. 20

Sunday Sept. 27

Saturday Oct. 17

Sunday Oct. 18

We will work from 8 am to noon. A picnic lunch will be provided. As usual, you can bring your toys and play in the afternoon if you like.

Scheduled work includes:

Removing existing old fence that dissects the open area.
Weed clearing where the new fence will be located.
Put in fence posts (time permitting).
We suggest wearing long pants and sturdy shoes. Bring gloves and eye protection. If you prefer using your own weed trimmer you can bring it. Richard says they have 4 or 5 that we can use.

Please let me know which date you or your group prefers. The date with the most responses will be announced soon so you can mark your calendars.

Contact Jan McGarvie at 619.561.3877 or Jan@McGarvie.us.

The young riders area that she is speaking of is a new training and practice area for the new and young motorcycle riders. This is the first official ground braking meeting toward making this area a reality for the youth. If your interested we can make it an official SCUFF clean up as well. Let me know which days look best for those interested.

Sept. 27th  first choice
Sept. 20th second choice

I'm glad to see this is starting. I've had two close calls with kids out there. One was while riding the Kern trail in a blind corner, the young man had crashed and was in the middle of the trail, sending myself and two buddys off the trail into the thick brush to avoid running the downed rider and father (who was attending to him) over.
The other time was on the road heading back to the lower campgound from a run.

It would be great if we could get everyone involved in this. Yes it will be hard work, Hot, dusty. Just get there early before the afternoon this time it won't be so bad. There is water in the lower campground to rinse off the dirt with. The more helping hands we get the faster it will happen and the sooner the kids will have a safe area to ride.

Will the Forest Service be setting up survey markers for us so we can get an idea of the scope of work to be done? I would like to see an outline of the tot lot mapped out on google map or something.

Correctomundo

Operation Desert Fun, October 16-18 at Ocotillo Wells

Weekend of September 20 there's a tentative weekend at Superstition

So, I'll vote for the 27th of Sept, might be cooler weather than too

Whatever day it is I'll likely camp the weekend there

After posting this up I got word that the local Motorcycle group that is going to sponsor the area might have different plans and a different time schedule...  I'm out.   ThumbUp

I have just been advised by Tim Cardoza of the Cleveland NF that due to current conditions, the Forest Use Restriction Level has been elevated to "Extreme." Therefore, the work day at Corral Canyon scheduled for September 27 has been postponed until conditions improve.

You will be advised whenever the work day is rescheduled.

Best,

Jan McGarvie

P.S. Guy, please send out a mass e-mail and update the SDORC website ASAP.
