Once in the middle of Baja I cased my bike. I poked a Giant hole in my case and was loosing oil. I shut it down and threw it on its side. On bikes we didnt have much in the line of repair material and this was before the awesome Jb Weld Kwik.  We ended up gutting a bic pen and used a Bic lighter to plastic weld the hole up. It got me through to the end of the ride, and back to the states. For some reason Im really proud of the act of figuring out how to over come the misfortune. Im sure there are some good 4x4 tricks that we all might want to learn... any teachers? any little trick that saved the day?

I once what a guy use a plug kit and tie wire to repair a sidewall on his spare after he had tore up the previous tire up 10 minutes earlier. Mine was I repaired a sidewall on my quad with duct tape stuffed in the slice.

I think duct tape should be called "McGivre tape". I hate to call it a tool but that's one tool I always have with me.

If I didn't see this with my own eyes I wouldn't believe it. Once when we were in Glamis I saw a friend of mine who had gotten a flat, take a hollowed out spark plug and put it in his engine, then he attached an air hose to the spark plug. He started the motor and used the air coming out of that cylinder to inflate his tire. I thought that was pretty "McGivreish". ;)

One of our group broke an axle shaft in a Dana 35 and grenaded his soft-locker at Corral Canyon on Bronco Peak, no trail fix that day. had to Macgyv up an axle retainer, towed him all the way back to Four Corners and trailered him home:

Would there be any advantage to loosing the jacking part, and only use the beam?

No real advantage, it's a pain in the patootie but it works, solid bars like that tend to "walk" up the tire so it takes a lot of stopping and adjusting.

If you feel like making me one ;D, (or anyone else) the ideal would be a solid bar long enough to reach past the outside diameter of a tire (possibly big enough for a 35" tire); at the center of the bar weld a washer or something in place to basically separate the bar into two equal sections; slid a sung but not fitting section of pipe over each half leaving enough room on the outside end of the bar to weld an attachment point on each end - something like a chain link would work.

Of course the real ideal would be a non-c-clip axle like the Dana 44, Ford 8,8 or 9", a D60 or a c-clip eliminator kit like the Superior C-Clip Eliminator or Super 35 kit.

The idea is that you could attach a tie down strap to the clips and sung it up against the wheel, the "pipe" sections would allow the tire to roll and the pipes would roll in opposite directions, it wouldn't "walk" up the tire and it cold be easily stored in the back of a Jeep. You could also weld an attach point to the center to use another strap to hang it from the top,
