Looking for recommendations/leads on a reputable mechanic with experience on Ford 6.0 diesels. I seem to have been bitten by the EGR bug, likely blew a head gasket or the EGR cooler towing the Jeep home last night. The massive plumes of white smoke bellowing out of the exhaust was the first sign  Cuss

I work at Capistrano Ford in San juan Capistrano. I don't do diesel work but our diesel guy is one of the best. He does all the work on my parents 6.0L F250. Its kind of out of your way though, about an 1 hour and a half drive from San Diego. Are you still under the 100,000 mile warranty?

about 40k over warranty, will probably try to argue the point with Ford. The word I got now is that it may the EGR cooler that blew. If the truck was "Off-road Use" only I would consider a bypass as a fix, but I would never consider such a thing, really, I wouldn't, honest  1eye

I woudn't bypass it because if they start smog checking diesels you'll be bummed. Also the check engine light will stay on. Then when there is another problem you woudn't know it. What my friend does is replace the EGR cooler with a stronger stainless steel aftermarket unit and no more problems. If you want more info on prices and labor let me know or if you have any questions on the 6.0L, this guy knows them really well.

Bypass is pretty much out because of the smog issue, Calif is going to start visual and smoke tests on diesels and I'd rather not deal with it, which is why I bought a diesel in the first place  dooh

I've been looking at the Neal Tech EGR cooler, is your guy doing something similar? I'm interested in prices...

After some checking it looks like the oil cooler went and took the EGR cooler with it

I looked for you on the news the other night, when the window washer made the spot light.

The last Super Duty I will ever buy  censored

I really wanted a Dodge but, with what I paid for this, and adding in the price of repairs, I'm still into it for less than half it's value, so can't complain that much

User-error on the window washer, costing them 6k+ for the Fire Dept response and repairs. Fortunately I was up in Washington state so I got to watch it on the news and laugh. That was the other mechanic/engineer up on the roof during the rappel, he was one letting the fire guys know that it's not a good idea to tie off to a PVC vent pipe for a 22-story rappel. Fortunately no one got hurt and the fire guys got some good training in building construction. Most people don't realize that high-rises are just shells attached to a frame,

Yea he is a Neal Tech distributor so he can get you a good price. 6.0L is a good engine once you get all the bugs worked out. I'll PM you with prices.

Got it, and wow, if that works out I'll post on every Super Duty forum ever created that he is descended from angels sent to earth to save people stupid enough to buy 6.0 Ford Super Duty diesels from themselves and their ultimate fate  ThumbUp

 Vent Sarcasm

btw: he may need to know, the truck has a manufacture date of 06/03

Hooked up with yotarunner's contact and...

If you have a Super Duty and have the EGR/Oil Cooler issue, this guy can not be beat. If you are familiar with the Neal Technologies Cooler or need work on the EGR Cooler drop me a line and I'll forward his info
