Ok, I hear that Warn winches are the best... Is that because they have been around for a long time and kinda pioneered the off road winch? Or is there something in side that makes them superior? It seems to me that in this day and age the technology would all be about the same? Are you buying the name or ?

I have a Warn ti9500 And the only reason I have one is I got a better deal from the dealer when I bought the jeep than what I could get on my own. I truly have only used it around the house when I pulled some stumps out. It is something that I wanted for those just case, but I really hope that I never have to use it. Well at least I'm semi prepared.

Part of Warn's popularity is that they have been around forever, but a bigger part is their reliability and service. It's not often hat you hear of Warn failing, but it does happen. Part of what sets Warn apart is that when a Warn needs parts, they'll have it. If you pick a 30 year old Warn winch and give them a call, they'll have the part.
Better parts? Generally. A short note: series-wound vs. permanent magnet motors. A lot of the less-expensive winces use magnet motors (eg, Milemarker PM8500 etc). Good, but a series wound motor is more expensive, and somewhat more reliable, as in the Warn. Some use relays, some use solenoids, like Warn. And so on and so on.
Warns generally have a higher line speed, more torque, better connectors...
I'm on the I prefer Warn list but, economics dictate and I have a Milemarker 8500 (military uses a mil spec Milemarker on some apps). A decent winch for under $300 on sale, I've used it several times and although it's not the best money can buy it works. If I could I'd have one of the snazzy Warns with the air setup but I haven't won the lotto yet
So, IMHO, Warn is best and I'd love to have a set of Dynatrac 60 axles too ;D. they don't call it budget building for nothing. But if anyone wants to get me one they can have my trusty ol MileMarker, I'll even toss in the never worn free MileMarker hat.

Steve's point on the availability of parts for the Warn winches is a strong selling point. You can email Stu Olson to see if he had any problems with the Bulldog i.t may take him a day or 2 to answer but he does answer his emails

Well I have a warn 9000 and so far I have used it three times and it has worked flawlessly. I even used the winch line to wrap around my idler arm to keep it straight while I drove home from Superstition.
