I'm looking for things I can be doing to the rig on the CHEAP. You know, Waterproofing, Zip tying, or anything else that might need a cheap improvement, which by doing so might save me some grief on the trails. Any suggestions?

Now that is an excellent idea, which brings to mind, maybe you could mount a bottle opener, unless you have a TJ or a Hi-Lift, both have built in bottle openers, now that's good design!!

Tow hooks from a late model chevy/gmc truck. Direct bolt on for a YJ.

add-on fuse block from mid 90's cadillac. They come in the car with a bunch of Max Fuses and are easy to take out in one piece at the junkyard

Remove weight. Like swaybars and excess body parts, etc.

Not for your rig but throwing it out there.
things done to my 2 DR XJ. Trimmed front and rear fenders. Folded lower rear quarters. Wired electric fan to manual switch. Relocated front and rear brake lines for added travel (im running stock length lines on 4" and they still have plenty of slack at full flex. Next Im going to modify my door hinges to make my doors removable.

Thinking in general, not vehicle specific: Running axel vent hoses up to a high position; adding vent hoses if there is only a vent. Sealing the plastic hole plugs in the bottom of the cab with silicone. My 90 Toy would get wet inside befor I sealed them up. Venting the airbox on the bottom to release water. I had two Toys and a Durango that needed this. Replacing the factory battery terminal clamps and cables. I buy solid copper marine clamps and 0 ga, multi-strand copper wire cables. I solder the ends (because they are usually only crimped) with copper pipe flux/solder and use a shrink sleeve. This is a good idea for any wiring you may do. Replace factory headlight bulbs with somthing better, e.g. Silverstars, Hella et. al.. The Silverstars in my current truck are a lot better than what came with it. I used to run IPF replacements with 80/100W bulbs. They were bright, occasionally pissed off other drivers, but worked well on dark roads, in bad weather, or off road. No, I never got ticketed for them. Add additional cigarette lighter power ports in the engine bay and at the rear to use with a compressor, spotlight, whatever. Clean electrical connections and reset them with a good dielectric grease to keep water out. Never use brake cleaner to clean any electrical connection. Add backup lights. A cheapo set will do fine. 30A relays are about $6.00 at Radio Shack.
I know some easy fixes/mods that are 2nd Gen Dodge specific; I might add those to the vehicel specific section

Made a 1" body lift out of scrap metal. We had the aluminum laying around the shop and the longer grade 8 bolts cost me $20 at ababa. Worked great just making a spacer between the body and original mount rubber.

I have heard a few bad storys about big body lifts and really I was just needing a little more room for a gas tank mod I have in mind. Was it a make or break sorta deal, No! Did it add just enough tire clearance and under body mounting space, Yes. 1" body lift will give a very low budget rig a slightly better look and enough room for just a little bigger tire and a more modified rig a little more room if needed.
Dave.

I also did a 1" body. Much more than that and you're getting top heavy.
