I read that thread again today as well.  I definately want to go SOA.  I keep bouncing back and forth between the SOA and the spring lift, but I was thinking Sunday that I can slowly buy parts a little at a time then helling out a little over a grand for a spring kit.  I want to hit up soe salvage yards after Christmas and see if I can find some flat top knuckles.  There seem to be a lot of companies that make the high steer arm kits which I could piece together slowly as funds become availible.  Slowly but surely, I think I can make that happen.  Sounds like SOA is the way to go for sure.  I was thinking of adding the 1 inch shackles on top of the SOA for that little bit extra, but that is so far down the line that I can;t even begin to worry about that.

I have had both the Bj's all spring 6" lift and SOA on a FSJ and I liked the SOA a lot more than the lift kit. The main reason is the SOA was a softer and more comfortable ride as well as providing significantly more flex over the kit from Bj's.

I used 63" chevy spring in the rear in-boarded under the frame as opposed to the traditional shackle reversal with stock springs. I really liked that option because of the smooth and super flexy ride that come form such long springs.

I will be back in San Diego in 19 days (not that I am counting) and since I have don't have a rig tight now I am itching to help out on other peoples rigs. So chief gunner and wiebewagon let me know when you are working on your stuff and I will be there to help! I also bought a new hobart weld that needs to be used!

Sweet, thanks for the offer to help.  I will be sure to let you know.  One of the things I want to do is learn to weld, so I will be hitting you up.  I started my grill swap yesterday (from final addition to Razor) and once I get my hands on some buckets and round light, I think I need to weld some tabs for the buckets.  That will be after Christmas so there will be some time.  But I will hit you up for sure.  Let me know if you need some help getting moved in and or settled.

I put a razor on my 89' and it was a little tricky but if you don't have welder handy you can jb weld the tabs and that will be enough hold for the head lights. A grill swap will do soooo much for the look of a FSJ and my personal favorite is the razor grill. Also thanks for the moving help unfortunately my wife and I and the dog are moving in to my parents house! So we have sold most everything we own and just have a few boxes of clothes and books. You think two college educated people could find some jobs!

Sorry for the side track conversation, back to talking about how awesome FSJs are!

Don't know if it for sale but there is a full sized J truck at the southwest corner of Twin Peaks and Community Rd. in Poway it has been ther for 2 years that I know of. When you get down here and find a job you might want to look into it

Sorry  Hijack

Yea, I am loving the look of the Razor grill.  I still have the square headlights, but I hope to have that fixed after Christmas.  I have two brackets along the bottom of the front that the final edition grill mounted to that I have to remove, but I love the Razor grill look.  After the holidays, I am going to start looking for parts to do a SOA lift.  I want to hit up the local junk yards and find some flat top knuckles, then slowly by some steering arms and mounting equipment.  Then it is a matter of links and coupling.  that would get my steering settled.  I think the TT Fab Works SOA/SF is the way to go.  Then it is a matter of shocks, brake line extenders, and any other loose ends.  But if I buy parts a little at a time, I have a better chance of getting a lift done.  If any of y'all know of any goo places for parts and such, let me know.

I havent been to the San Diego junk yards in about 5 years but you can get the knuckle off of any chevy 6 lug and it will fit perfect on a FSJ axle. I score mine from a local guy on a 4x4 forum for $50 and it was all ready drilled and tapped. Just check around and someone might have one laying around.

« Reply #15 on: December 02, 2009, 12:01:33 PM »

I started my grill swap yesterday (from final addition to Razor) and once I get my hands on some buckets and round light,

Hey Cheif.  I got buckets and lights for ya.  Just come get them.  Send me a PM.  There yours.  Merry christmas!!! Cheers

I have 4" Skyjacker Soft ride springs and would recomend SOA to any FSJ owner.  SJ springs are just too short and while they will break in after a few years they just don't work as good off road or on road as SOA.  If you take your time and do your research the SOA is almost the same cost as a good lift kit too.  Once I start wheeling this thing again and get sick of the springs I'll be doing SOA as well.

Sweet, that is awesome.  Let me know when you are free and I can stop by and pick them up.  If you are free Friday or Saturday I could probibly use some help with the install of the buckets as I think the require a little welding (I have zero welding skills).  Again, thanks.

Hey MT, I know you were looking into the ability to mill some knuckles down flat.  Of course, I was very interested in this as well  Sarcasm.  I found a link that may be of interest to you.  Of course this all might be info that you already know.  http://web.acsalaska.net/~cvandor/wilhelm/flattop.html  Let me know if this was helpful at all.
