i certainly appreciate the openness of posting almost anything in viewpoint.  i was looking to see if there was a location to ask about mechanical advice for our jeep.  do i continue and post that here?
thanks again to rob and todd.  thanks to the leak in my breaks i now have fluid back in the lines.  i hope to drive the the chevy via back way to either of the guy's place to get that work done this week.

:helpsmilie:the issue i request advice for today is this.  our jeep the 82 w/t cherokee.  won't start...we can get it to turn over and run for a few seconds on starter fluid, but there is just no gas getting to the carb. dooh  4.2 inline 6 cyl.  this is frustrating because we've had it started before.  just a few months ago(or less) we drove it a few laps around the storage lot.  we learned the power steering and transmission leak.  the power steering it the bad leak...the trans we're not that worried about.  we have added gas to the tank in case there was a little build-up against the filter screen.  it still won't start.  what should i do first?  can anyone help me pull it out of storage to work on it?  if it was out of storage i could at least test section by section from the tank to the carb to see where its blocked.  i'm even tempted to just get a new tank anyway...maybe i should get a 5 gal marine tank and set it up to the carb for now lol.  thanks for your time guys and gals.

Check the fuel filter so see if fuel is passing through it and then if you have any sort of fuel pressure regulator check that to make sure the fuel is getting through that also.

I would check the fuel filters first and make sure they are not clogged up. If they look good you need to check the fuel pump. Im not sure if its on the motor or in the tank for that year? Either way if its not pumping thats the problem. On my fsj when I run out of gas it takes allot of priming gas in the carb to keep it running until the tank Coffee gas takes over. I also have found that if the nose of the rig is slightly down hill the fuel pick up works allot better if the fuel level in the tank is low.

I checked the parts store and those run a mechanical fuel pump. other than a clogged filter if you're not getting fuel to the carb it would be the pump. first thing i would do is pull the fuel line from the carb and crank the engine to see if you get any fuel out of the line... (i don't recommend smoking during this). if there is no fuel from the line than most likely the pump is bad.

i met up with smittles on sunday to look at his carb.  no fuel getting into the carb.  swapped the needle and seat and when we started it up, we couldn't get it to shut off! ThumbUp
the offending part wasn't a needle and seat, but a check ball affair.  anyone got an idea on that?

I had an 85 XJ with a 2.5 and everytime that bastard sat for more than a couple months the diaphragm in the fuel pump would just disintegrate check the fuel pump
