So, I am thinking of future paint jobs for the beast.  I was thinking of doing a rattle can paint job.  I figure I could do it for a few hundred dollars. I am thinking a flat grey and flat black two tone.  I want to learn to do some basic body work.  I have a few areas where I need to patch some rust.  But after I pull the wood grain off, I can clean up the body and paint it.  I want to do it in sections.  I figure I can pull the hood off, prep it paint it, and re-install it.  Then I can move on to each front fender and do the same thing.  I would like to pull the doors off one at a time and do the same thing.  The hard part would be the rest of the body and top.  I need to figure out how I am going to do that.  When I am ready, I think I will take a week of leave and try to do this in a week.  Not sure how realistic this is, but I am thinking aobut it.  What are your thoughts on this?  Any ideas or suggestions?

sounds like a decent plan to me, let me know if and when you get ready to do it, if i can get a little time off myself ill come help (if you tell me early i more or less write my own schedule) i thought about the rattle can route and may still go it, if i dont end up doing the textured liner paint idea

Depending on the condition of your body I would plan for more than a week.  And I would recommend buying a harbor freight gun and using automotive paint over rattle can if you have a compressor.

The body work on my jeep took 2 months, and about about 500 in materials including paint

Yea, I saw your build today with moorehouse77.  I am not looking to get it as nice as yours.  In fact, I amnot even trying to get it half as nice as yours.  I do want to try my hand at a little body work.  I have a few rust spots that I might need to weld some patch panels in, but for the most part, I want to keep it simple.  Also, this is kind of a daily driver for me, so I have to keep it simple.  However, I would like to pick your brain sometime to learn a little.

I wasn't planning on mine being as nice either but kinda luck'd out because my friend does bodywork and his dad owns a bodyshop.  So he taught me a lot and we did some trade work.  Just really time consuming.  Not hard to get it really nice, just gotta be really patient which was hard at first for me but it payed off.  We used about a gallon or more of bondo on mine and kept sanding it off and making it perfect.  Some good straight line sanding blocks help A LOT.  And summitracing sells some good paint at a good price, so check that out if you wanna go that route

I know what you mean.  I do want to take my time and do it right.  That being said, I know I will trash it so I don't want to invest all the time you did on yours.  However, I know when you look at yours and know the blood, sweat, tears, and blood that went into yours, you are so proud if it (for good reason).  First things first though, I have some body work to do among other things.  But you will be hearing from me one day about body work tips and tricks.

I might take you up on that offer.  I am still in the very beginning phase of just thinking out loud.  I wont really be ready to paint for quite a few months.  But I will keep you in mind.

I appreceate the offer, but painting is on the back burner for now.  My main priority is lift and tires.  Priority #2 is custom bumpers and rock sliders.  Then body work and painting.  How ever, I will probibly try to do a little body work now and then.  I want to get rid of the wood trim and fix a few dents.  I also want to pull the luggage rack and fill in all the holes, but we will see how that goes.

If you are painting with flat don't be afraid to use a roller.

I am liking the roller job.  Still not sure exactly what I want to do, but painting is low on my list, so I still have time to figure it out.  Oh the ideas are rollin.
