I have a long arm kit on my Jeep TJ. On the front end there are 2 short arms. I keep breaking the bolts where the bracket attaches to the frame. I have already drilled them out and re tapped the holes. I was under the Jeep today looking over everything and I saw that they were loose and broken again.

My question is:

Should I drill all the way through the frame and use longer bolts with pinch nuts on the back side?
Or do I weld the hangers to the frame?

Has any other TJ owners had this problem?

Oh yeah I am going to the desert in 2 days!

I don't know the grade, they are frame bolts with the built in washer. The other problem is the frame has holes tapped in it that keep getting stipped out.

So you think drilling through both sides of the frame is better than welding?

I guessing that your not using any lock washers or thread lock (red) on these. I've broken many bolts on my jeep because the bolts loosened up while out wheeling. They would break right where the threads stopped and the neck began. So to increase the strength of your bolts, buy the longest bolt you can get so that threads end beyond the seam. Also use lock tight (red) on everthing..
If you decide to drill all the way through the frame. I would suggest you weld in a piece of tubing for the bolt to pass through, so not to crush the frame.

What's on the other side? Maybe we should look first. (Na' it will give us something talk about later)
