It will be awesome if we get to continue the trail out. The possibilites for a hardcore trail are much greater. I will be down to help with the trail just about anytime. Its like building bike jumps back when we were kids.

so when are we headed up there again to work on it?
i seen a bunch of telephone pole pieces on the side of the roda while we were out there. i wonder if richard will let us use those for the trail. also i see people on craigs list all the time giving away railroda ties. those might come in handy.

Those poles were part of a cleanup last year. Would be nice to find a use for them.

Right, if you noticed the metal tube around the campgrounds and Four corners ... These wooden poles were where they are now. The problem was people using them for obstacles and fire wood... Im not moving them again!!!!!

I think a sign needs to go up that says "coming soon, don't ride if you weren't there last weekend".

i think there should be no sign. we should do our best to leave the ends of the trails alone so that way people dont even know there is a trail back there yet. but then how do we get done there. never mind. maybe a sign would be good. a sign on a fence.
anybody want to go back this weekend? the wife might let me head out there again. and maybe after we do some work how bout runnnin sidewinder? havent done any trails out there yet.

How about "trail closed"... We know that it's open for maintenance... no one else would.

Thanks Mike... I think its important at this point to remind everyone that we are working within the frame work of the federal park. Adding things like ribbions and signs that are not approved by the park is not a good idea. Lets run the sign thing by Richard and see what he has laying around... I know I have seen "trail closed" signs in the past up there. He may give is the go ahead to make them but there isnt a need to go to the expense and time unless it can be used. Im think we need to stay focused on the clearing mode for now. Richard will give us further instruction on the fence building and sineage in the near future.

so how would i get a hold of richard so that we could get the green light for the markers and the signs. i wasnt going to go up there and do anything with a fence yet. its too early for that.
and from what i got from richard near the end of the day out there was that basically everythign was up to us. he said that he didnt want any part of this. if we wanted to put up signs or fences or really just about anything that we could just go ahead and do it. and i believe its like that for all the projects thats going on out there. but all of this might be something we want to double check on just incase.

I have been attending the quartly meetings with the park rangers at there head quarters for a while now. Richard is letting us do what we would like to within the confines of the rules he has to play by for him in his position. He is letting us have a very active say in where and how the trail is placed. As he stated, he not going to tell us what we can do, he is going to tell us what we cant do. He and I are in touch I shot off a e mail to him earlier. He is one guy and seldom in the shop, so sometimes communication with him takes awhile. Im thinking that we should go up and work on the trail on an individual basis as we wish with the idea that we work on what we have been authorized to do to this point. Clear a trail... JeffM1964 is the SCUFF trail boss and will be heading up different types of work parties here in the near future. We are working on a weekend of primitive camping, working, wheeling party. On a long weekend like that we can get the bounders of the trails marked with fencing and delineation. Im thinking for our efforts here as a group that Jeff should be the go between guy for SCUFF and Richard. What we do as individuals has already been instructed by Richard. Just my 2 cents what ever its worth?

This is Richards response to the sign/construction issue.
Bob,
I will get some temporary "Under Construction" signs made up and I think just putting a piece of fence across the entrance/exit would be ok for now.
As for the fence: Don't make fun of the Kabul zoo until you look at the fencing we have done up there in the past. It's not as much about how it looks as what it says. The message is "go/don't go here". We don't have a particular standard other than putting the t-posts about 10' apart and 10' from the trail (where there is room). Once the chaparral grows back we won't see the fence until the area burns again so the "10' and 10' " rule of thumb is the only real one.
Here is an electronic version of the volunteer agreement form. Feel free to pass it on.
I'll be in touch.
Thanks for helping facilitate this effort!

so am i good to go up there and work on the trail or not? it seems like alls i could do is just clear it out which is fine for now but eventually its going to be all cleared. i know i may be jumping the gun a little bit but i would like to get the signs that you were tlaking about up sooner rather than later that way someone doesnt go out there and start making their own way around before anythign can be done. i would still like to head ou there this weekend i would just like to know what i can do. or should i just wait until there is a better idea of what to do.

Im not the one to be giving anyone permission to do anything... Richard is making signs now, when he gets them done Im sure he will contact me if they need to be installed along with the fence other wise Im sure he will throw them up for us. I will post it up as soon as I hear. As far as shutting down the trail... The only people that know that that trail is there is people who worked on it this weekend and those who view it here. We all know what is at risk if we go off what is laid out already. If I were you I would feel comfortable trimming the scrubs closest to where the existing tire tracks are now along with popping up the root stubs that can slice sidewalls. The signage is being worked on and taken care of. The traffic up there is usually on the weekend so we have a few days to figure out what else needs to be done if anything. Be sure to keep track of your time that you worked up there so we can give that info to Richard. Also Pics are a good way to document what was done Your efforts are appreciated. Thanks
