We all wish we could drive a  tank ... some of you in the military prob. have.  My XJ is named Rice Krispies by my friend Dave saying, "it's snap crackle and popping down the road!"  Yes it does.
This post is for jeepers, like me, who abuse our jeeps.
Motor mounts!!: UPGRADE BOLTS!  When the bolts shear off, it's almost always a clean cut, leaving half the bolt in the block.  NOT fun.  So upgrade them before breakage, I put grade 8... and I know there is some even stronger out there for Jeepspeed. grade 9?  My motor crushed my distrib, and stretched the throttle cable.

Uni-bodies suck: so reinforce your steering box, before ripping it off the sub frame!(big tires are obviously the killer here)

Motor Clunking: Recently I thought my bottom end was done for, after minimal research on the web I read the clunking could be my fly wheel bolts. Sure enough lock-tited the bolts and sounds gone.
200mi+ and major abuse has caused lots of problems that could have been prevented... if I knew. dooh

XJ's definitely have their draw backs and issues.....but built correctly and maintained regularly they are a very capeable 4 x 4.  I have had my share of issues but I love my Cherokee.

Right now I'm dealing with the rear shocks. The passenger side upper shock mount has separated at the spot welds. The floor and unibody (frame rail) are either deformed or torn. I'm now going to move the shocks and go through the floor into the cargo area and plate the unibody and floor to get it all structurally sound.

they definitely do have their drawbacks. but if you become an informed owner. you can adress  most issues when they arise or maybe even before. the internet forums are VERY helpful. i am also a member of jeepforum.com and NAXJA. i dont know where i would be without those sites.
