Went to TDS, had a blast, got to The Notches for the first time, another blast.....my camera (and camera skills) sucks, so therefore, my pictures suck, sorry......But, if there is anybody out there with pics and/or video of the guy in the F250 at The Notches on Friday night, you HAVE to share those with the rest of the class.......simply insane...and hilarious....

Short version, some guy in a 4x4 F250 crew cab, what looked to be his daily driver (and work truck) just beat the HELL out of his truck trying to climb stuff that even some of the dedicated off road rigs were having some issues with.....scattered tools and a laundry basket (?wtf?) about the wash and generally entertained the crowd.....I'm sure he felt pretty crappy the next day, both with the damage he did to his truck and the after affects of the "liquid courage" that had driven him the night before....The guy beat the tube type nerf bars/running boards up so bad, he couldn't open the doors of the truck!  Had to climb in and out the windows....

I'm sorry to see that the stupidity of the notches hasn't changed any, even after someone DIED in those notches because of drunken stupidity.  I had been saying for years someone was going to die in there, and it finally happened last year.

I know it looks like a roaring good time, but after almost getting hit with my (then) 4 year old by my side, I never went back.  It's just dumb, and most of the people participating in the mayhem aren't wheelers.  Just ravers looking for a good time.

I'm sorry, but I think that someone destroying their $20K rig in the notches because they got drunk and let the crowd influence them is just stupid and pitiful.

I know I'm playing the fuddy duddy that I despise on my runs, but in this case, that kind of crap is just plain stupid and dangerous, and the people who go out there and cheer the idiots on are just as much of the problem.  It's one of the reasons why I quit going to TDS.

I'll second that. I don't want to be near anyone that is wheeling and drinking.  I can live with a beer at the lunch stop but any more than that is worth a comment. We sometimes forget that this hobby can be dangerous enough as it is and I don't need the extra stress of worrying about a drunk that might need my help or that I might need to depending on for a tow, a fix or some other problem. A flop can happen any time and if it happens to me I would like to know that the guy behind me has a clear head. There is plenty of time for cold beers and tall tales back at camp.

As a side issue I still fail to see any attraction to jeeping in truckhaven and this is part of the reason; but maybe I just don't know where to go.

To each his own Petey......Personally, I think it's a bit of a high horse you're riding there, but......numbnuts exist whether they have an audience or not, so I feel no guilt or responsibility for the guys actions.....I'm much too old to be a "raver", but I guess I'm not a real "wheeler" either if I enjoyed watching Mr. F250's antics....

I got sick of all that so called party wheeling antics and stoped going out to TDS. If you wait and go the next weekend you can have the place to your self.

OK so I went to TDS and went on the organized run, which I thought was great jeeping.
I paid my money to support keeping trails open.
I did not win in the raffle
I did not go to the notches.
I don't drink

I wonder where that puts me?

About 6 or 7 years ago I walked up to the main notch on Friday night with my kid on my shoulders. Saw a Toyota PU come flying out of the notch and land on several people. The guy just backed up and went back into the notch to play some more. At that time there were people lined up 5 deep on each side of the notch. I turned and walked away.
I have been back to see the BS a couple of times since then, never with my kid.

Didn't go this year, don't feel like I missed anything. Course Pete and I were there a week ago and had the whole place to ourselves. ThumbUp  Did what ever we wanted where ever we wanted, without a caravan of people to deal with. And without a drunken free for all.
FWIW, I can't stand getting in a line of 40 or so rigs and playing follow the leader on what has (by) now become a highway.
Give me a few friends and any direction to go and I'm as happy as can be.
(Can I borrow that flame suit Pete?) LMAO

As a side issue I still fail to see any attraction to jeeping in truckhaven and this is part of the reason; but maybe I just don't know where to go.

For the most part I believe that adults can and should be responsible for themselves, and I tend to not watch what they're doing and focus more on what I'm doing.  As I have mentioned in other places, if something becomes a problem enough to where I think I have to say something, I'll elect to not wheel with that person in the future.  Easy enough.  I guess the threshold for "when to say something" is different for different people, but generally, unless someone is starting to get sloppy, it's not a problem.  Sloppy to me means behavior or driving is becoming obviously erratic.  My close group of friends that I wheel with are pretty good guys, and we are all pretty independent, so nobody has to worry about watching someone else.

As for wheeling in Truckhaven...what kind of wheeling are you looking for?  There's something for everyone, and I can show you from stupid easy to ridiculously hard to insanely scary.  There is no other wheeling anywhere in Southern California that is like Truckhaven...possibly nothing in the US.

so basicly ur saying ur freinds are uptight  crybabys like yourself
maybe u guys should find a new hobby
hmmmm....If wanting to ensure the safety of my family is being a crybaby, then yes, I'll take that.

If wanting to point out that dumbshit behavior like that only contributes to getting one of my favorite wheeling spots shut down, then yes, I'll take that.

If you're saying that I'm a crybaby because I feel that people should take personal responsibility for themselves and act like ADULTS, then sure, I'll take that, too.  But, if THAT'S what you are implying, then doesn't that mean that you are calling yourself irresponsible, and NOT wanting to take responsibility for yourself?

Not sure I understand your logic, but keep going down that line. We can have lots of fun with it.

If you can actually articulate what you are trying to say without resorting to insults or name calling, then perhaps you'll be somewhat more clearly understood.
