I really want on board air. I am thinking about converting my current and running AC compresser to do just that. Right now, I really don't even use my A/C and I am starting to think about making the switch in stead of finding a second compresser and finding a way to get iti in the engine compartment some where. I am curious as to what people think about that idea. I was thinking of finding a small tank to mount under the Jeep somewhere. Maybe pulling the A/C controls out from the dash and mounting some type of switch plate with gauge or something cool like that. Any ideas or opinions on the subject welcome.

I did a conversion of my A/C from R12 to R134 a few weeks ago and shortly after that a hose blew out. Last weekend I went to the junkyard and got a York compressor to take its place. Sourcing parts right now. A/C is optional but air will get used every time out. The benefit to a york over a sanden style is no need for an inline oiler.

i got a pretty good air compressor for about 50 bucks. its not on board air but it does the trick to fill up the tires. if you do have on board air running through your ac then the only way it will work is if you truck is running. even if you have a tank you not going to have a big enough tank to fill all your tires or someone else tires if you cant get the vehicle running. another dis advantage to having on board air is you can only use it if you have the vehicle. your essentially a driving air compressor. not very compact.
on board air would probally be great if you have a big tank and can fill it to about 100 psi. then you can run some air tools. but if your only planning on usinf it to air up your tires it would be so much more benefitial to not try and mess around with the ac and just but a decent compressor. then you can use it in other vehicles too. take it with you if you go on a road trip in the saturn. get a tire repair kit and you could fix a tire any where.
in short on board air isnt worth the hassle unless your running arb's or plan on using air tools on the trail.

I agree with snotrocket. After getting a decent electric pump for my tires I don't see the need for on board air. If you just really want to do it then you should keep the a/c and run a second york for OBA. Having a/c might help the wife get in your Jeep more often too.

YAY! Steve is getting OBA! My poor York was getting tires filling up those Iroks! (Just kidding!)
You'll love the OBA, Steve. It is the single most used accessory on my Jeep, and always has been. That poor tire York has been doing air duty for 5-plus years in the TJ. I think a put oil in it 3 or 4 years ago. I keep waiting for it to stop working, but it never does.

Anyone thinking about on board air? Found this at the veterans thrift store in chula vista, on broadway. It's a York 208, according to the tag. The 210 is the most sought after model but this one is in good shape and they only want $12 for it.

still there, or it was on saturday afternoon. It's on broadway right across from a place with fantastic burgers. The old boll weevil, I think it's call the bullseye or bullpen, down around K or L street. It's in the back in the bins of as-is stuff. That part of the store is only open certain hours so give tham a call first.

Well, looks like I am getting a free AC compressor on Sat. I found one from a guy off the IFSJA.ORG web site who is getting ready to send is Jeep to the junk yard. Asked how much he wanted for the comp. Told me as long as I pick it up, it is mine for free. The family and I are going up to Temecula to visit some friends on Sat, so a quick stop on the way and I have a comp for my OBA. Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!!!
