There will be another meeting with the Cleveland National Park folks early this next month. I was planning on discussing the new trail on SCUFFS behalf. With that said is there any improvements, safety concerns, layout issues, or general comment on the trail that needs to be addressed at that time? Any and all input on this issue would be appreciated. I am planning on going back up there this weekend to take another look at what we have up there right now. Anyone want to cruise up for a look see and maybe a light work party for a few hours this next weekend ?

I'll be out of town this weekend or I'd go up with ya'.  The few I've talked with are concerned about tire damage, as am I. Is there any way we could get a Bobcat up there to scratch in the trail rather then drive our $1200 tires through the brush. Maybe have a few fundraiser or raffle for the rental equiptment? We could cross post the raffle / fundraiser. The rental isn't very expensive from Ahern.. $70 delivery $135 a day, think $450 would cover a weekend of use.

Good point Mike... Even though Im not sure grading the road is the answer? maybe grubbing the roots out some other way? Personally I would rather till it up than scrape it smooth? Keep in mind this is a TDS trail and I will just be bringing ideas to the table. Good thought and I will pass it on... Thanks

the last time i was up there me and ken and some other dud in a jeep that just showed up did quite a bit of clearing out roots and other potential tires killers. it wasnt really that difficult to get them all up and after we got done it looked pretty clean. it was time consuming and im sure a bobcat would do it alot quicker but if its somethign we can do with our hands and our own tools (or the forest services tools) for free than im down with that option.

richard also gave us some signs to place at the begining and ending of the trail to try and keep people out. i wont be able to head up there this weekend due to the BBQ and easter but you should check to see if the signs are still there. i think i posted a picture of what they said on another post.

another thing we looked at was some of the other trails that im guessing we will eventually be tackling that branch off of gunslinger and i was just curious if you could find out if or when anythign is going to happen with those. some looked pretty narley. rock buggie kind of narley. definately not for a pretty JK  TDay

I am planning on making the ber-b-q on Sat as well.  I have a couple of friends that want to show up and run as well.  A co-worker just bought a built rubicon and wants to get it dirty.  I also have a friend or two that want to ride up as well.  I was thinking about the trail work at CC just the other day.  It has been a while since we did any work up there.  I think we are do for another work day.  I wouldn't mind heading up there the around the 10th of Apr if nothing else is going on.

M.T. Can you ask if there are any plans on naming the the off shoots. Think it would be helpful when discussing trails by name.
911A could be SCUFF Loop... or something, just say-n  TDay 911C could be TDS pick up ur broken part Loop...  Junker

Bob, grab a piece of heavy plate, say 3/4" 12"x18" or so and cut a long thin v notch in it to hook around the stump/roots. Sharpen the front edge on top so it will dig in. Attach a bar with loop to the top/front about 12-18" long to pull it on the front, kick the drawbar up at and angle so the plate angles down and digs in to the fat part of the trunk/root ball just below ground level.

Like this but keep the plate flat with the drawbar coming up at an angle and sharp on top so it digs in and make the V longer and thinner for a better pinch. Maybe angle the cuts for the V out at the top too. Maybe even put a couple bars coming up off the back for handles to force it down like a plow.http://retiredtractors.com/Plows/jdpics.html

Other idea is a double jointed hitch deal like for an offroad trailer but with a pipe or tube on it a few feet long with a V notched plate on the front to push.

I spoke to Richard today about this and he says it will ultimately be up to the users to name the trails. Maybe we just need to start calling it something and if fits and is G rated it will probably stick. So lets have some ideas? Something unique to So Cal might be cool?

I will be seeing Richard Monday morning so any ideas, thoughts, or questions for him?

I like this.. not sure how the TDS guys were pulling the stumps, from what I could tell they got the whole bush / stump out.  clap

I don't think you could even get it past the trail entrance  no ... maybe if it has 37s under it.  TDay

From what I saw last time we did trail work, the Dodge is pretty much a dozer.
