Situation: I have an almost built Chevy stepside which I love. It has been in the middle of a tunes port injection swap to get away from having a carb but I am out of cash to finish it so I put it up forsale or trade. It has been sitting for months.

Someone offered me this built '99 XJ limited with a 4.0 that has 142K miles on it.
It is currently in CA and registered/smogged in CA.

Here is the original ad from the guy he bought it from.

I know squat about jeeps but have not heard good stories as far as reliability of these motors.

Is this a good trade? What are peoples opinions on this Jeeps motor as well as what it has on it?

Do I ditch the Chevy and go to the dark side so I have something that runs and is wheelable now?
Thanks!

Looks like a pretty nice XJ with a lot of options
The 4.0 is the most reliable motor your going to get out of Jeep. It's what Bryan and i have in our jeeps (same year too)
It will be more wheel-able than the Chevy
With the D30 up front those 35's will be as tall as you want to go.

I'm probably the wrong guy to ask but there is no way I would trade your truck for that Jeep.  Why the heck would you want to do that?

Should I stop by and smack some sence into you on my way home?  It's on my way, I don't mind.

I have a '99 XJ it's a great 4 x 4.........it looks like it's a nice Cherokee, but it probally worth $7500? Hard to give it a true value without seeing it. Any body can post a list of parts, are they installed correctly and do they work well together. Just to many un knowns. Go to naxja.org (North American XJ Association) and look at "So Cal for sale" and look at the Cherokee's.
Here's the negative of an XJ, unibody so no Solid Frame. You really need to look at the steering box area of the "Frame Rail" for cracks also if the "Frame" has been plated.
XJ's wheel great, they flex and ride well.

If you want to talk to me further about the good, the bad and the ugly of XJ's send me a pm with you number and I give you a call.

Thanks guys. It'd be a step down (or 3) but it's running and usable as is. Gonna see if he will throw in cash on the deal but I doubt it.  dooh

I'll come over and put your carb stuff back on for you so you can drive your truck again.  You're talking crazy.

that is a sharp XJ but not worth the nearly $10K asking price. like steve (99xj) said, somewhere in the mid $7k range would be fair. but that is most definitely a well built rig. you also have to assume that well built means it was well used.
