alright well i got the "toyota bible" there is alot of info on there but theres more people BSing than anything. there was a whole bunch of links to to certain pages on pirate with the info i needed but when i tryed to go to those links or even cut and paste into the browser, pirate said they didnt exist. there wasnt really much info in the "bible" pertaining to tapping an ifs box.

im going to spend some time today scouring the WWW and pirate to see what i can find.

all right well i got the box drilled out and tapped and the fittings fit perfectly. i had absolutely no issue taking the box apart, drilling the holes and tapping them out. everythign was going to easy. well, now i cant get it back together. i think i got a piece of metal stuck up in the piston. it has a huge screw that is inserted in the center of if that moves it up and down and that turns the out put shaft. well i think i got a piece of metal stuck up in there because now it doesnt turn. before it was very easy to turn it and get it to move up and down.

ill will post up some pictures tomorrow. im really aggervated at the stupid thing and i left my camera in the garage and i dont feel like going to get it. RantOff  taz

wither that  or one of the balls in there moved outa place

well. i would definately hae to say that one of the balls moved out of place cause when i finally got it all pulled apart the balls went every where. so i collected all that i could which i believe was about all of them. most of them fell into my oil bucket so i used a magnet to fish them out. i got them all cleaned up and got the piston and the screw all cleaned up. with some handy work from a pair of tweasers i was able to get most of the balls back in but not all of them. everythign seems to be working out just fine. but im thinking about getting another one (and paying alot more attention to taking it apart and putting it together) as a spare just incase this one fails out on the trail. i had no idea there was bearing up in there and i never seen anythign about it in any of the threads i read about taking apart the steering box. should have definately been something somebody should have mentioned. but oh wells. i think i got it now.

this is the piston/gear that the ball bearing fell out of. the shaft coming out of the bottom of it goes straight to the input shaft on the box. when you turn the steering wheel it pulls that piston up and down.

you already got the box, the fitting are another 12 bucks. im gonna get the 2"  ram with a 6" stroke.

and i actually just got the word from the wife that i can start looking for a tow rig and that i dont have to keep the 4runner legal any more. so that just opened up a world of possibilities.

i was planning on getting the Trail Gear pum kit. http://www.trail-gear.com/steering-pump-kits

i was reading things about drilling out the restrictor in the pump i got but id rather just get a new one. maybe ill drill it out and keep it as a spare.
