the transfer case isnt in neutral is it? ive done that before other than that if you able to have it in gear and the clutch not pressed in and it doesnt go any where then its the clutch. or the tranny is messed up.

Did you reuse the clutch from your buddys jeep or install a new one? It kinda sounds like the splines on the input shaft arent the same as the clutch. Also if it has an inspection cover pop it off and make sure the clutch and fly wheel are bolted to the engine. I know it sounds dumb but I have done both of those in the past.

New slave cylinder? I had the shift fork pop off and hold the clutch disengaged before and then do the opposite.. That was a fun ride home.. no stopping lol

Yea' I think it's stupid how the mfg thinks that paper clip they installed on the shift fork is supposed to hold up. Before you go pulling the tranny. Pull the slave cylinder at the trans and make sure its not hyper extended and holding the clutch open. you would most likely be loosing fluid into the bell housing if this was the case. If thats not it. then try tripping the starter. with the slave cylinder out. if the jeep moves your problems solved, (slave cylinder) unless you just ran over your friend or backed into your neighbors car.. then you found new problems.. JK just be careful.. good luck

Also a new slave cylinder will move easy and won't be hard. hard or heavy is signs of old

Wrong tranny! You need a manual trans from a PRE-91. A 97 AX15? would have a 23 spline input and a 88 will have a 21.

So the input shaft on the transfercase (21 spline) would still fit over the 23 spline output on the trans? Didn't think they would even bolt up...

after a long break (europe) i started to work on my comanche again. i put new master, slave, line, and reinstalled the clutch again. now its a different problem. before it wouldnt move at all. i started the manche (without the driveshafts) and the rearend of the tranny started to spin. it spun when i ran it through all the gears. it spun even while the clutch was in and even when it was on neutral. any idea what this could be?

There is always a little drag on the clutch so it will spin no matter what without the drive shaft on. Put the divershaft on and take it for a spin.
Dave.
