so since we got the camper me and the wife have been talking about doing alot more camping. well since im obviousily not done with the 4runner and dont really have a trailer to take it any where were thinking about just flat towing the jeep to where were gonna camp that way we can leave the big ass truck and go out in the jeep.

im having a hard time finding a kit (its a jeep, i know there a kit) to set the front end up to be towed. i see snow birds do it all the time. but where do they get the kit? ive been looking everywhere but have not been looking in the right places. any ideas?

now that im looking for one i know ill never see another snow bird with one to ask.

so i found a towing company here in san diego that sell this blue ox stuff. 432.00$ for the hardware to set the jeep up for towing. that doesnt include the woring or the tow bar. any other ideas. ill drag the jeep sideways down the road before i pay that. i know it has to be cheaper.

Blue ox 1122 base plate  $345.00

Roadmaster 521433-1   $349.00

And keep an eye on Craigslist I've seen tow bars and base plates from time to time there. It's where I got my blue ox tow bar.

I have a blue ox base plate I removed from my Cherokee if you want to see if it could be modified to fit your application.

Tow bar stuff isnt cheep, thats for sure. I just guessing but Id be will to bet that theres alot of regulation those companies have to go through to get their product sellable.

I bought a $79.00 tow bar and beefed it up. Works perfect, under $100.00 total investment.

The tow bar is easy. The expensive part is the portion that bolts to the frame.  Easy enough to make if you have the tools but most modern cars are not that user friendly for stuff like this.
