We just got back to the motel and had an amazing day of wheelin. We (Ty/4x4LOYR, Craig/Rubic06, Tony/Rednecksami,Rob/Jumpnt, and Taylor/2wdrckcrwlr) met at the Discovery Center around 8:30 am and had a couple of people join us at the last minute. A bitching Hemi powered 4door JK and a couple of guys who couldn't find their group in a early 90's stock yota. We ran Gold Mt. first. Everyone got through the trail without damage except me. I will probably have to replace my drivers quarter panel thanks to a tree that jumped out and got me. After GM we hit the super highway 3N16 to cut across the mountains to grab some lunch at a campground before we hit Deep Creek. After everyones bellies were full we loaded up and hit Deep Creek. It was a short trail but more technical than Gold Mt. The waterfall was really fun. Everyone made it down without incident. After we got to the bottom of the waterfall we finished the trail at Deep Creek swimming hole. Water was cold fun very refreshing. A great way to was the trail dust off. After everyone got their fill of swimming, we congragated at Ty's cabin for some BBQ. For those who missed this run, you missed out on an amazing day of wheelin. Hope to see you the next time! P.S. The guys in the yota were refered by Mogman. They work together and Andres wanted to go wheelin. Mogman suggested he start out on something a little easier than John Bull so he told him about our run.

I may have to re-think wheeling with you in the future with all the trail damage that seems to jump out at you(JK). Really, if all the trails jump out at you, then I can sneak by hopefully. Now I really want to see some trail pics.

If I remember correctly, the last jumping tree before this was in front of Teds yota. We'll be home in the afternoon and I'll get pics up than.

The guy in the Toyota is a co worker of mine, Andres. He was going to go with me on John Bull but I told him about your trail and how what a good group of wheelers you are. For a first time out he should try a trail a little less hard. Last minute invite I hope it went OK. Great weekend out on the trails. Zack

@mogman....Andres had a blast. When we got to the swimmin hole he had a million questions about what he can do to his yota, so of course we to him he should straight axle it. Really nice guy and willing to listen to spotters. We told him about SCUFF. If you can show him the site if he hasn't already found it. It was a great wheelin day, can't wait for the next one! I saw you Sat morn. I was at the AM/PM getting gas and you drove by with the mog on the trailer.

SCUFF Big Bear Run, Saturday, July 24, 2010 ? Gold Mountain & Dishpan Springs
I hope everyone that went along had a great time. It was certainly an adventure, that?s for sure. Of course, and what I?ve learned as usual, it is the company that makes a great run, not the trails. This past weekend was no exception. We had a fantastic time, and cannot wait until the next run.
What started out as a run suggestion by Taylor was (unfortunately) taken over by Ty, and turned into a weekend extravaganza (well, sort of). My two older boys and I headed up to Big Bear via Bass Pro Shop (in Rancho Cucamonga) mid-morning Friday. Upon our arrival in the Big Bear Lake area, we hit up Stater Bros. grocery store to buy food for the big BBQ that we were going to host on Saturday, after the run. Finally we made it to the cabin and settled in. Although, soon we were off to the local skatepark to ride the ramps. In between ?skate sessions,? the boys and I sharpened our card skills with a little UNO.

As evening rolled around, the rest of the wheelers started showing up, including Craig and the six (6) others he brought along (they set up a tent city in my front yard). We all stayed up way too late on Friday night playing poker and doing other general nonsense (?til about 2:30 am, or so) and had an early morning the next (same) day. Finally, we had to go to bed (because the alarm was set for 6:45 am).
Of course, the cabin-crew got a late start and I was embarrassingly late to the Run that I had scheduled. Oh well, nothing a few higher MPH?s couldn?t fix while out on the trail. As it turns out, whiling getting gas, we saw a large ?Mog driving out Stanfield Cutoff and turning right onto Highway 18. Funny that the driver of that rig (we would later find out) sent a co-worker of his to join our group. Hey, thanks a lot. I kid; Andres was great to have along, and was more than welcome.
At the Big Bear Discovery Center (our meeting place), two guys approached me and was wondering if we were the ?Pirate4x4? group that was going to go wheeling today. I informed the gentlemen that (1) we didn?t have enough dents in our side panels (well, Taylor does now); and (2) our tires were not big enough to be a Pirate group; but, that they were more than welcome to join us anyways. (For the record, I have gone on and participated in Pirate4x4 runs in the past, and will do so in the future, so I state the above in jest.) Also, another fellow wheeler from the area decided to join us; and it so happens that his name is also ?Ty.? (What are the chances of having two ?Ty?s? on the same wheeling trip? Astronomical, I?m sure.) Unfortunately, it is our name only that we share; the other Ty?s Jeep is the Red JK Rubicon Unlimited in the photos above with the 37? tires, and oh yeah, the SRT V-8 Hemi--absolutely beautiful rig.
We finally rolled out with eight (8) rigs: Jeep JK 2-door, Jeep TJ, Jeep Wagonner, Jeep JK Rubicon Unlimited SRT-8, Jeep JK Rubicon Unlimited, Suzuki Samurai, and Toyota Pick-up. We headed to Gold Mountain first, got to the trailhead, did some last minute checks, and started up the mountain. The most exciting thing about the first obstacle was watching Tony?s Samurai pop his front tires off the ground more than a foot in height. I sure hope someone caught that on film ? it was awesome! Everyone else did a great job.
As you can and will tell, I did not take too many photos. While I did carry both of my cameras with me (like usual), I find it hard to take many photos while trail-leading the group. As the trail leader, I try to keep the group moving at a consistent rate, while still providing ample photo-ops for the rest of the wheelers. Also, since I was up in front the whole time, and would go ahead and get my Jeep through the other side in order to run back to help spot the next driver; my rig and I are seldom in many pictures. But rest assured, I was, indeed there, and I was the least dusty to prove it (just ask those that had to shake the dust out of their hair). There are many photo-ops along Gold Mountain, and it so happens that two are very close to one another: poser rock and family poser rock. There are photos of ?poser rock? already shown in this thread, here are some good looking kids on ?family poser rock":

After some excitement on the Rock Garden (big built TJ got himself stuck on a rock) we finally made it to the end of Gold Mountain. Next, our journey would entail a 45 minute drive across 3N16 (a very dusty road ? also known as the ?Forest Freeway?) to the Dishpan Springs trailhead. Now, admittedly, my time estimate was a bit optimistic, and I didn?t want people to get discouraged (because it was really dusty); but I think there might have almost been a mutiny when it was probably closer to an hour and forty-five minutes before I would stop (near the trailhead) for lunch. But, also admittedly, it was a very nice lunch spot: shade, picnic tables, trash cans, and, the all important, bathroom.
Finally, we started down Dishpan Springs. There are only a couple of hard obstacles on the trail, and everyone did fantastic (with my spotting, of course). The ?waterfall? was successfully navigated by everyone, and there was almost no traffic to contend with while on the trail (although not while we were on 3N16 ? I blame all the traffic for the extended time. I swear.)
And, yes, we made it to the oh so coveted ?swimming hole? or, ?Deep Creek Recreation Area.? I finally took my camera out and snapped a few photos (trail photos all start to look the same after a while). So here are some fresh swimming photos where everyone is enjoying themselves.
Some of our group enjoying the refreshing water (and getting the dust off):

Trace sliding down the natural water slideL

Torin jumping into the water:

New friends:

More of our group:

?What do you mean I have to get out of the water??

When asked how his day of wheeling went, Trace answered with two ?Rock-On?s?!

After spending about 2 hours swimming and relaxing by the water, we headed out to the pavement, aired up, and headed back to Big Bear (about a 45 minute drive. I swear.)
Then, as tradition dictates, we met back at my cabin and had an after-run BBQ. We ate hamburgers and hot dogs, all kinds of side dishes (some of us drank beer (me)), and we told fantastic stories of wheelin? the hardest lines, and other wonder lies. And, to our surprise, Jeff (JeffAdkins17) showed up on his motorcycle and joined us during the after-run party.
It was a great day of wheelin?. And, it was a great weekend spent with friends!
Ty....

On our way down the mountain on Sunday afternoon (in route to Bass Pro Shop again (oh yeah!)), we ran into some wheeling friends of mine and we stopped to chat with them on the side of the road for a few minutes. It turns out that they did Gold Mountain on Saturday, and saw the same yellow TJ Rubicon stuck on the rock about an hour and half after we did (good thing I decided to get our group moving again.) Anyhow, after Gold Mountain, my friends headed over to John Bull, but, the line at the trailhead/gate-keeper was so long they decided to skip it. Probably a good thing we just stayed with our plan of running Gold Mountain rather than switching to John Bull.
Speaking of John Bull, I will likely be up for another wheelin? trip to Big Bear in a few weeks / a month, especially if I have my new gears and 37? tires installed (gotta test them out!) If John Bull is the trail people want to do, then we will really want to make sure we get an early start, so we are some of the first on the trail. (My first time doing John Bull, we were on the trail for seven (7) hours due to traffic and such (there was a roll-over on one of the obstacles) (by the way, my first time on J.B. was with Pirate4x4)).

Hey Guys, new guy here. I probably talked with a few of you by that yellow jeep stuck on the big rock. We rolled up in the black LJ and parked a ways back. I guess i should have registered earlier and run with you guys! It was a fun trail, but that first obstacle was WAY worse than it was last year. Last year i didn't even remember it as any type of obstacle, and this year it was probably the hardest. With the beautiful weather we had the top down and door off. "Is that rain?" 2 minutes later we were getting dumped on! Got some funny looks with top down, doors off, no shirts, etc. haha good times! BTW where is that swimming hole? Looks like a blast! We went back and jumped in the lake and did some wake surfing on my uncles boat when the sun came back out.

The swimming hole is a the beginning /end of dishpan springs trail depending on which way you run it, near lake arrowhead. We had a great rest of our run for sure and the swim at the end made it even better. Check out the new member introductions section and introduce yourself if you haven't already. Good to have you on SCUFF.
