San Marcos Hills --> October 16, 2010
Run Report: 4x4LOYR (Ty + 2 sons), JeffAdkins17 (Jeff + friend Adam), & Sergio (+ wife & 2 dogs) met at the Pizza Nova parking lot in San Marcos at about 9:30 am. Around 9:45 am, after looking over each others' rigs, we headed to the trailhead. We decided to try a new way onto the trails off of North Twin Oaks Valley Road, so we ventured up some uncharted roads. After airing down and disconnecting, all of our attempts led to dead ends. So, we went ahead and drove back to the "normal" entrance and headed up into the "Hills."
Once up in the Hills, we hit numerous trials, climbed rocks, followed dirt roads, met some other fellow wheelers, and generally had a great time. Jeff suffered a little bit of damage in that his fender flares came into contact with his 34" tires and most of the corners "popped" off; but nothing that can't be fixed. Ty attempted to climb straight up a rock face but couldn't get up the last little bit; had to be strapped off the front to keep from toppling over on the retreat.
All-in-all, it was a great day of wheeling. Then, to top off a great day, we headed to Stone Brewery & World Bistro Gardens for lunch and some cold beers.
Here are some photos:
Waiting at the meeting location:
