86 toy extra cab with a 3" pro comp lift, the rear has no real flex at all. Its a 4 pack leaf in the rear what should i do for 1 a better ride and 2 more flex in the dirt, the lift has about 600 miles on it if it matters.

all pro, trail gear. even sky jacker. pretty much anything but those pro comps. they use only a couple of really thick leaves in the pro comps. makes for a very stiff ride and kind of restricts the suspension. these other companys use alot of thinner leaves to give you a more pregressive spring rate. alot more flexability.

i dont want to say bad things about vendors, so i'll just say what i know to be the best springs for toyotas. if you want the very best and dont mind spending some serious coin, go with deaver. if you want an affordable spring that rides good, flexes good, and lasts a long time without sagging or breaking, go with all-pro or marlin. i prefer the 3" - 4" springs since they're high enough to clear larger tires but not stupid high.

If your trying to keep it cheap, pull a leaf out and see how it feels. But I agree with billybob13, get some Deaver or All-pro. Unfortunately Marlin doesn't sell leaf springs anymore.

i have modified several leaf packs with great results, but it's not something you want to do all willy nilly. pulling leafs from a pack gives you a soft ride and good flex (i pulled 2 from each corner on a 4,000lb rig and loved it) but it turns a medium duty pack into a light duty pack. this just means that they will not last as long, and will break easily especially if you dont have a traction bar. when pulling leafs from a pack you should take the bottom leaf out, and if you need to pull one more, skip a leaf then pull the next one out to keep the taper effect somewhat consistent. another good trick is to ditch the plastic pads. they fall out anyway leaving trash on the trail without you knowing, and they're also good for trapping dirt and sand and rubbing it back and forth like sand paper in one small spot. after tossing those, it's good to use a flap disc or other sanding disc and gently round off the corner of each leaf that leads back and forth on the next leaf (picture skiing on a 2x4 then skiing on a snow ski).

Thanks every one for your input most likely I'm going to pull aleaf out of the rear and see how it does, i don't have the $$ for new ones right now. Just have to guess on which one to pull and see how it rides.
