so i'm not to familiar with the FSJ, yet but this my truck has a 9" for rear isn't there supposed to be shocks along with the leaf springs? and another question. since i have the 9" rear shouldn't i re gear the font diff so it doesn't explode like a hand grenade when i engage 4WD?

If it has a FORD 9" someone put that in there. They must not have had shock mounts that lined up for the FSJ. Some small fabrication may be neccesary to mount shocks. As for the gears YES you better find out what gears you have front and rear and decide which ratio you want to keep. The 9" may be cheaper and easier to regear.. MY 2cents.

Are you sure that is a 9"? In going back and looking at your pics you posted the rear end dosent look like a Ford 9" to me. Even though Its not a real clear pic of the rearend I have my doubts. Also there appears to be a shock mount hanging down on the driver side of the rear end? Is that what it appears to be? The axle issue isnt a problem if what he put in has the same gearing as the front. Even a tooth difference wont blow up your rear end or front end. Specially if ya only put it in 4x4 in the dirt. But more than a tooth or so and something will break or ware out really fast.

Check out Randy's ring and pinion web site (google it). That site does a pretty good job of helping you identify the different axles. Stock, you would probibly have an AMC 20 or Dana 44. However, the trucks might be different as they have 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton trucks. Also, keep in mind that us FSJ'ers love to mod and swap stuff out, so there really in no telling what in in there now without doing a little research. It might be a good idea to pull the diff cover off and find out what gears your running front and rear. They should be stamped on the side of the ring gear.

went back to he shop and looked at it again and took a pic but forgot my tape measure to measure the length from the shock mounts to the frame bolts (to see if it would match up with the stock shocks) but it is a ford 9 just no shocks

Yep looks like a ford 9" to me. The shock brackets are there just pointing in the wrong direction to use the factory upper mounts on the frame. Not hard to fix if you know someone with a welder.
Dave.

On second look somebody has already added new shock mounts. Looks pretty close to the factory location so stock shocks should work just fine for ya.

Ok got me, it's a 9'er. If you ever get to the Casa de Oro area in Spring Valley stop by I might have a good set of takeoffs that will work for ya. Or give me a length and I can check and see what I have stuffed away. If I have um I will give them to you.
