I have an 87 K5 Blazer and have in the past shopped for headers and have wondered why 1987 is an odd year for the Blazer. When looking up headers, the year usually goes up to 1986 and then starts again at 1988. I have looked at the design of the 83-86 headers and they look like they have the smog equipment and dimensions that I would need for my 87. But the 87 is not listed on the fitment list. WTF?  Does anyone out there have a clue why 87 is such an odd year for headers on a Chevy Blazer? I have all of the original equipment ; smog pump, air tubes, oxygen sensor, heat riser, Y pipe, cat converter, 350 w TBI. I even have the original air cleaner.

I am looking for a set of headers because I developed an exhaust leak at TDS and have replaced the exhaust manifold gaskets and the leak got worse. It looks like there is a small crack on the bottom of the passanger side manifold and I would like to upgrade to headers.

just call Jegs and tell them what you have. ask them for the part numbers that you need and then shop around. they are good about finding things but dont always have the best price

I had headers on both of my Blazers 73 and the 87.. Hated them with a passion. Rear bolts came loose all the time. Blow the gaskets... Tried everything. Not to mention the smog guys wouldn't pass them. .02

Well after calling several companies, exhaust and smog shops, I have found out there are some manufactures that make the headers that I need and the have an Executive Order Number for use in California Smog vehicles. I looked at the close out section for Edelbrock and unfortunately the set I need recently sold out. If anyone has a pre 1986 Blazer, they have a great close out price on a smog legal set with the Y pipe, air tubes and O2 sensor bung for about $275. The best that I have found for my application are some JBA headers for about $550. I guess for now I will just search eBay or the junk yard for a replacement manifold. I am not sure but it looks like there is a small crack on the bottom of the manifold. Has anyone else had an exhaust manifold crack? Did you weld it, JB weld it or just replace it?

If the crack is where you can get at it, drill the end to stop spreading then grind it clean and braze it. My jeep manifold held up like that for a couple of years.

JB Weld doesn't work. It will burn. I welded mine. you can pick up a welding rod made for cast metal and give it a zap. Do drill a hole at both ends of the crack and with a grinde cut a V groove into the crack. weld it up. Most likely it will crack again right next to the weld. Hopefully not before your able to find something to replace it with.

If you go with the headers... I cut thru the flange in two places (between the first and last cylinders) to allow the header to move.. helped keep the gaskets from blowing out.

Well I took the exhaust manifold off and it turned out to be more than just a small crack. I don't think JB Weld will fix this one. So I went to the junk yard and bought a replacement manifold and when I was installing it, I was getting tired and loosing my patients because I was having issues installing the 2 rear bolt. I should have stopped but instead I cross threaded both rear bolts and didn't connect the Y pipe correctly. I started the motor and can hear the leak from the exhaust donut. Just another project for next week. dooh

Those would be awsome if I could smog the darn thing with them. I guess I could reinstall the stock exhaust system when I have to smog it every 2 years. HHMMMM. You got me thinking: is it worth it every 2 years? Thanks
