SAVE JOHNSON VALLEY! Pirate's First Giant Multi-Vendor GIVEAWAY FOR LAND USE!

If you haven?t heard about The Marines plans to expand the 29 Palms military base into the Johnson Valley OHV area, home of the King of The Hammers desert race, then you must be living under a rock, or in this case more likely NOT living under a rock. If you have, then you know just how large a battle we have on our hands. There is a very real potential for us to lose one of the greatest, and one of the few remaining open OHV areas in southern California.

Right now what we need are letters. The Marines EIS public comment period is open right now until May 26th, and we need YOU to help us. Thanks to a lot of work from Kurtuleas and a number of other people behind the scenes this is going to require very little work from you. Basically you just need to click the following link and write a letter, or many letters. A number of topics have already been added at the top to help you get the letter writing juices flowing. Select one of them and then add a few of your own words before sending. We encourage you to write letters on any and all of the subjects that you feel strongly about including any that may not already be included in the generator.

If you're ready to get writing, quit wasting time and go here: http://pirate4x4.com/letters/action.php

So how do you win? This giveaway is OPEN TO ALL MEMBERS. Also unlike normal, you CAN enter this one more than once! The more letters you send in, the greater your chances!

In all my letter I start off by stating how important the US military is and how thankful I am to the men and women who serve our great country and go on to say that if JV is the best place for them to build a large scale test facility that could help keep us safe in the future than who am I to say "stop, I don't want that". However I strongly oppose closing JV to all civilian use and would hope that there is another location that could be used with better results. If not then work with local residents and people in the offroad community to come up with a plan that can keep the best trails around  open for public use.

Post up people, show them our support but also say how much we want to keep JV alive.

I don?t need to write a letter. I have never wheeled in that area, and I will never wheel in that area. This doesn?t affect me.

This is the biggest problem we have. When we only fight for our own backyards, we just don?t have the numbers to have a voice.

When I first got started in this land-use crap, I posted on Pirate asking for everyone?s help with my own area which I was losing. JoeW asked, ?Why should we help you? Where the -Censored- were you when we were losing our trails in Texas??

He was right. Where was I?

From that point on, I promised to fight for all of our trails. I have never wheeled in Tellico. I have never wheeled in Johnson Valley. But I have fought for those places and many others because I am trying to show by example that saving our access is everyone?s responsibility.

There are 51 MILLION people in the USA that participate in OHV use.

That?s 1 in 4 Americans.

23.8% of the people over the age of 18.

Don?t believe me? Take a peek at this study:

http://www.fs.fed.us/recreation/prog...nal_report.pdf

What would happen if just a 1/4 of those people were vocal about losing our access?

They won?t read my letter anyway

Yes. They WILL. As long as it is personalized and not a form letter, by NEPA (Basically, by LAW) they HAVE to read each and every comment submitted by the public.

These letters will not make a difference anyway.

Yes. They CAN and they WILL.

Get this: Just ONE letter sent in by WLD WUN (who also happens to be one of my best friends) on this board saved literally 300 miles in the Eldorado National Forest when it went through Travel Management.

Meh..There are others that will write letters, I don?t need too.
No. They won?t.

Don?t rely on the OTHER GUY, because he is not writing them.

We have a strong base of about 300 people here on Pirate who contribute regularly to our letter campaigns, but on a website that has about 200,000 members, and even tens of thousands more non-members view the page, we have only a small fraction participating.

I am not a ?Land-use? expert. I don?t know what to write.

You don?t have to be a ?land-use? expert. -Censored-, I?m not.

We made it easy by having 28, pre-loaded ?Topic sentences? with this campaign. You load a topic, add 1-2 sentences expanding on the argument, and BLAM! It?s done. I have done most of the work for you by coming up with the arguments that we need delivered.

I just don?t have the time.

Sending a letter with the generator takes just under a minute. If you do all 28 letters, you are looking at less than ? hour of work because your address stays on the form and you don?t have to keep typing all your info in.

Plus you just took the time to post up in a thread about some bs, you can take a few minutes to send a letter.

PLEASE SEND A LETTER TODAY:
