What's the best stall speed for small block 350 turbo 400, rock crawler / high speed open desert?
The trans I'm looking at comes with a Precision of New Hampton 4701 ssa-mx at 2300 rpm stall
I'm looking at a Precision of New Hampton 4601 amrv with a low stall at 1100 rpm stall (think makes more sence)
The guy I'm buying this trans from was told that the high stall was better for rock crawling.... I'm like what are you talking about...??? Is it true, was I born under a rock?
Thanks

Higher stall gets the RPM's up in a better power range.  Comes down to motor build and personal preference.  If you build a motor that doesn't run real good in the lower RPM's but screams in the middle to top then a higher stall is the way to go.  If the motor gets built for low end grunt then maybe a low stall.   Most factory stalls are around 1500 to 1800 i think.

agreed... if you got a stroker motor than i would think a lower stall speed is what you would want. something that matches that low end torque. if it's a high rever like the jap cars then you dont see the torque till you are higher in the R's.

I would think LOW stall for a couple reasons... It would help on downhills as well.. Im curious what the correct answer on the other site is?

I know when building hot rods it had to do with the intake and cam , you know what RPMs are you making your power, like everyone else said

I don't know anything about this motor other then it came out of a Z28. I'll have to do some research on the motor specs. and find out where the power band / torque is at.
