i wanted to have a shovel on my BII but a real one, not the old school folding one ya know.... where to put it you ask, bolt it to the roof of course!
i took some ProComp shock mounts that the shovel just happen to fit in and spaced them out on the roof rack. i was able to remove the mounting screws at each end of the rack, drill a 1/2" hole and slide, (hammer) the mounts in.
they didnt fit all the way through the roof so i had to weld a small bolt to the mount to extend it.

with the mounts in the roof and the new longer bolts fit through the interior roof panel they where bolted in.
not too bad looking with 2 bolts sticking thrugh your head liner huh?
with the shovel siting in the mounts i thought, how am i going to hold this thing in? zip ties where of course my first thought... but i decided to drill another hole in the handle and slide a bolt through it with a nut on it.
the other end of the shovel is metal so i didnt want to drill a big hole in it wan weaken is so i, you guessed it, zip tied a shop rag to the mount! this stops it from rattleing too!

the thing works great, i even needed the shovel the next day on otay mountan!

That's cool man. Been debating with myself on whether to pack an e-tool or fit a medium sized shovel to the tub like those old military Jeeps. But it would be awfully nice to have a full size when you need it.

I like the fold up shovels from stars and strips. They take up very little room if that is an issue.

I have an e-tool packed in my Jeep add a trunk that never leaves.  It has come in handy a time or two, mostly while camping.
