Thats a good call Premo, I would avoid that place also. ~cool2 If you need cheap there's gotta be a radio shack somewhere down there.

Moved ya over to the CB Radio Thread because, well, it's a CB Radio thing ~clown
Fry's sells a Firestick clone antenna, @ $10-12 or so but stocking is kinda iffy. Same as Wally World. Some of the larger NAPA stores also stock a similar antenna, the one on Convoy Ct stocks them but they tend to me more expensive there.
If you're down in the Otay area the truck stop has Firesticks.
Radio Shacks are also kinda iffy on antennas, some have them some don't.
As a very last resort there's a radio shop on El Cajon Blvd that carries Firesticks (Mud Shack). Always an adventure dealing with him and the hours, like the owner, are unpredictable at best.
And don't forget to get a good mount, be sure it's grounded well and set the SWR's, if you need one I have a meter and can help set it. Important to get it tuned right or you run the risk of burning out the finals in your radio.
Finally, keep in mind that that some 4X4 clubs have restrictions/limits on antennas such as no stainless steel, nothing over 48" and some even discourage springs on the base. An antenna whipping around can do a lot of damage to a bystander on a bumpy trail. Look for the fiberglass under 48" and you'll do fine.

I got a firestix antenna from the Mud Shack in the college area on el cajon blvd. The guy is closing down or moving or something so it was only $14. A friend got a fakie firestix from fry's that works great. Otherwise i think the place to go is the ham radio outlet off the 163 and Clairmont Mesa Blvd. good luck
