Hi my name is Joe and I'm a cheep ass, well I what I mean is I go by the rule of "why buy it when you can build it yourself". I looked into all the YJ conversion for the Samurai and and thought, I can build that. I wanted to go with a shackle reversal and lengthen the frame, adding 6 inches to the wheel base. I read good and bad things about Missing links and decided not to use them, so all I needed to buy was Trail Tough's YJ to Samurai shackles and a pair of Trail-Gear's sloped hangers for the front. For the back I made my own spring mounts out of some 1/4 inch plate I had left over from another project and moved the mounting  hole back 1/2 an inch.

I bolted and welded them in place, then I moved the axle back 1 inch on the spring pad.

I used 2"X4" tubing to lengthen the frame and make my bumper, leaving room for a winch.

I know I'm leaving something's out, so if anyone has some questions please ask.

Sweet... nice work! I just love this fab stuff. ;D Did you notice much of a difference in the handling of the rig on the street? Much better off road?  Looks good.

It's smoother on the street do to the longer springs and it flexes nice on the rocks.

Let me ask?
Are you happy with the YJ setup? I am most likely going to YJs with Missing Links. I hear it is a lot of work and getting the set up just right is tricky.

Thanks

I'm very happy with the YJ's, I didn't want missing links do to them opening up on steep climbs. I've seen this happen and the result ended with a trip to the hospital but it depends on how your going to wheel it.

With the 6" wheel base extension what did you do for the front drive shaft? Im leaning towards no missing links but still shackles in front.

I got lucky and found a K.A.D. lengthened shaft on ebay for $100 awhile back but I still added a spacer because of the angle.
