I love my Dodge, gobs of power and hauls anything I want anywhere it fits.

But it doesn't fit everywhere. I have a blazer "project" that has a one ton drivetrain and 44" tires but I destroyed the body and frame wheeling. I'm also not as hardcore as I used to be.

I like the wife's 4runner for takng the family out but I'd like a V8, Auto, and solid axles.

What's your input?

Thinking about ditching the Dodge "towrig" and blazer "trailer queen" for one vehicle that can do most trails up to say Corral Canyon Level and still cruise the fwy with the family.

What say ye?

I tried to find some pics I took at Corral Canyon of a friend wheelin his GC on Sidewinder, awesome rig with leather seats. He tucked JK Rubi axles under it running 37's, it's a sight to see and he's gone evverywhere we have a few places we thought he was nuts to even try.

I'll pole around my gazillion pics and see if I can find them.

There's a couple of "desirable" years, and a couple to avoid, I'll post up some inks and info tomorrow, but the main opinion is, can't go wrong with a Grand

nice one listed in the for sale section too

I found one picture of Kory from months ago. This is from Jasons album. Looks to be from early April

still somewhat light  and tons of power

plus who in there right mind would want a jeep

I say go the 4runner or XJ direction just because of the unibody on the grand. I've seen some really really nice GC's but to get to that point costs alotta $. Toyotas are nice too but i think someone on here isn't giving the #1 selling 4x4 of all time the credit it is due.

An XJ is unibody too. I'd take a yota over a Jeep. Axle strength.

But there is more under the XJ to work with...XJ's make an awesome wheeler but I have to agree a 4runner makes a unbeatable rig.

axle swap....I'm a full width fan so toy axles just won't do

either way tons of body to deal with.

I'm with you on the axles for big tires. If you're swapping axles it doesn't really matter what you're starting with, except leaf springs are much cheaper/easier.

But if you're running up to 35s or so the yota axles hold up a lot better than Jeep axles.

Grands have been built hardcore, but I would only use a later model IFS full body/glass 4runner or Grand for lighter duty wheeling. Big axles and tires would trash the body/frame without lots of work, and all the bodywork/glass is heavy. I spend time in the sand and the Grand's V8 smokes the pants off the XJ 6. Esp if you get the '98 Limited 5.9.

And/or how much work you wanna do and most importantly what kinda wheeling you do.

I'm so hard on stuff I might be money ahead to buy a cheap xj/zj/whatever every so often and run them until they die and get another!

Have you seen mjlogan's cheap ranger project on pirate? He went from a built MJ to the beater ranger and he says he has more fun wheeling the whiz out of it.

It's a lot of work/$ to keep breaking something and making it stronger and stronger. The "disposable" beater idea is a good option I think. I will continue building since I already have a beefy drivetrain.
