Not much was said on SCUFF about this issue. But behind the scenes we've been very busy! We did a Recon run last weekend to Corral Canyons Sidewinder trail where a Ford Bronco has been laying in the schrubs for several years now.The goal of the trip was to figure out how, and when to extract the bronco and find it a new home. Some feelers were sent out, and within a very short time everything just seemed to fall into place. We are not sure how long that dead rig was there, but to the best of our memories its been at least 4 years, maybe even 5. Today we found out why ~clown

Before I get into what we did up there, I think it is only fair to let everyone know that a few years back another group was all ready to tackle the job. Apparently it was in much better shape at that time and some thought was even given to actually rolling it out. In the 11th hour the Forest Service shut the operation down In fear of sparks with a low humidity could cause some serious fire problems. Since that time the vehicle has been stripped of every thing of value, even the tranny! So rolling it out was just not an option. For you that know of the Sidewinder Landmark there are two fairly tough rock croppings  prior to arrival at the Bronco. Those two spots were where most of our focus was, and rightly so.

While Jeff was very confidant that the only way to get the Bronco out in a timely manner was to use a tractor. Of course it had to be big enough to get it in and over the two rock croppings, but not so big to disturb anything but the trail, and rubber wheels were a requirement. And we still had the issue of transporting the wreck, and the disposal of it once extracted.

This is where Being a SCUFF member is so cool to me! And this is how it went down...

I get a call from Jeff, he says that Daley Corp. is willing to donate the use of a tractor for the morning hours on Saturday. It will be delivered to the base of the hill on Friday evening. They then would return for it on Saturday at noon! How cool is that ~punk I get a call out of the blue 2 days ago from a brand new member David Wymore of El Centro. David says to me "lets just go jerk that thing out of there!" ~clap ~clown So I explain the existing  plan to him and he offers to meet us up on the hill with his flatbed trailer on Saturday morning... Oh did I mention he wants to haul it to the scrap yard for us too! ~punk ~clap  StvDiego and 4x4Grey88 send out the word that they want to camp out at the lower camp ground at C.C. for the weekend, and are all ready with hand tools, refreshments, and good cheer! ~clap Mean while Brink lets us know he is up for some adventure and at least a half a days worth of hard labor, and he would meet us up there also.

And that is exactly how it went down today... Perfect timing by all  ~punk Of course the star of the operation was Jeff and his razor sharp tractor driving skills! ~clap  We were started by 7:30 and done by 9:45. Extra high Humidity and all.  Great day guys and thanks for the extra effort by all of you!

Very impressive and it was probably a good idea to keep it secret. I'm sure it was tough enough without an audience.

How was it wheeling the backhoe? Does it have much flex.  ;D

Now topless and ready for the scrap yard. Actually, I might grab a couple things first. Maybe the rear springs...
