I have a high lift jack and have not yet mounted it on my Jeep. In everyone's opinion how important are they to have and also where might be a good place to mount it??? Any info would be appreciated.
                                    Thanks........John

I carry a hi-lift on my tire/can carrier on the rear.

In the past five years I've used it once to lift a Jeep XJ, once to hold a Dana 35 axle shaft in place to tow a broken Jeep off a trail, quite a few times installing body lifts, several times as a hammer, lever or cheater bar with the handle, it makes a handy point to swing the carrier when opening/closing it, and I've used it a zillion times as a bottle opener (it's most useful application).

I wouldn't rely on it as your primary jack, they are unstable, can be down right dangerous (never, ever get your face over the handle while using it, it hurts when the handle hits you, ask me how I know...) and are generally a pita to use. A good quality bottle jack is much more useful. I can jack up my lifted jeep on 35's with no problems with a bottle jack. Hi lifts are not all that vital, but useful.

For mounting, it's a lot of personal preference. I like mine on the carrier, it's out of the way and looks cool (very important consideration). Some like the hood mount (I don't), and I've seen some slick installs across the back of the rollbar or the back of the tub.

And some people have them and they never leave the garage.

I think they look best mounted on the rear. Mine is mounted on the rear gate horizontally under the spare tire. I also have seen them mounted vertically. Just depends which one works best and also looks best. But, definitely stick it in rear.....um....hahahaha :o

You said rear................ ;D

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna mount it horizontally under the spare just like you.
