Yet another source of Jeep confusion  ~helpsmilie

The confusion comes from the NV241J case used on the Jeep Liberty six-speed for a couple of years. The NV241OR "RockTrac"used on the Wrangler Rubicon has been know to be labelled/tagged either way (J and OR), hence, the confusion with the Liberty t-case.

But, in either tagged form the OR transfer case found on the Wrangler Rubicon models is most definelty not the same 241J found on the Liberty. The 241OR is significantly different from the Liberty, and non-Rubi Wrangler t-cases; the gear ratio has been bumped up, or down as the case may be, to 4:1, the case itself is larger, the speed sensor port has changed, it's rated at 11k lbs, internals are much heavier, the case is modded for torque handling, (there's been some report of problems with the shift linkage btw), a flanged rear output, and has a 23 spline input which means it will bolt up to a Wrangler and a few other details

and I want one  ~clown

Well long story short. I found one (241J) came out of a wrangler 2003 30k miles. I bought it. The owner installed an atlas II in his that he bought off a guy that won a certificate at a raffle. TDS
I have the 231J in my wrangler and I'm just not sure it I want to do the swap.  ~hammerDo you think it would increase the value of my jeep or no change? I'm thinking after this season of selling my jeep and starting on another jeep project something with some HP, danatrac 60 full width and 40" goodyear mtr's with no lift (YJ with round headlights) ~clap

Would it raise the value of your Jeep? Maybe, Slightly, Probably, Umm Yeah (pick one). Really the values would only be found for the right person who knows what the t-case is, and wants one, or someone who has clue and just wants it. Remember, most Jeeps never make it into 4lo, they spend the majority of their time sitting in the parking lot looking cool. The average buyer wants a Jeep and The Look, 4WD has little to do with it. Unfortunately.

I'm not sure i'd necessarily save it for your particular project build. While it is a better t-case than the 231 it's not as good as an Atlas. If you're going to go with 40's on 60's I'd invest in an Atlas and then give the 241 to me.

I mean, ya know, that's what I'd do if I was you, just a thought, 'cause ya know, I could use it, ya know, lol  ~clown
