I headed out into the desert on sunday riding shotgun with a friend in his FJ. We had to pre run a few routes for Borregofest later this month. Its been a while since I've been out in Anza Borrego with the summer heat here but the weather that day was great. Anyway, I thought I'd share.  ~punk

Airing down at Vallecito Wash trailhead.

Heading into tight, brushy Carrizo Creek.

Near the old Stage Station site.

End of the line here!

A rocky squeeze in Arroyo Seco Del Diablo Canyon.

Starting down Diablo dropoff.

Fish Creek / Split Mountain.

We found this gnarly trail just down from Split Mountain.

Then we followed the rail road tracks down past Superstition to Carrizo Mountain.

Painted Gorge.

Up and up and...

High atop Carrizo Mountain. The veiws are amazing!

Coming down.

Devil's Canyon.

I thought it was closed a while back but we didn't see any signs. We walked in a bit and I was missing my Jeep!

Heading towards Dos Cabezas.

Dos Cabezas Spring.

Found this marker. Looks like he died doing what he loved.

Down into Jojoba Wash.

Up Oriflamme Canyon and back home. What a day!  ;D

The real desert is not for the eyes of the superficial observer or the fearful soul of the cynic. It is a land which reveals its true character only to those who come with courage, tolerance, and understanding. For those, the desert holds rare gifts

Well, if it was Devil's Canyon. From what I've seen, there's no way my rig could take on the whole trail but I'd like to see how far I could make it. Yeah, they're usualy pretty good about posting up where you can't go. The only info we saw along the way was trail #150. We then turned left on #149 away from the freeway towards Dos Cabezas.

Oh, here are some pics I took. If anyone's been through there, does this look like Devil's Canyon?

They started at Mountain Springs Rd and came down.

I'm game. I going to try and get a few people together and see how far we can get up from the bottom Nov 1 I'm thinking. Just a check and see if it's open. Not an offical run. Expect Damage. ~rockon

Went out looking for it tonight and couldn't find it. Which wash is Carrizo? The one with the bridge? How far from the tracks?

Any chance of getting GPS trail from your trip or at least GPS coordinates for some of the main sites?

You planning on getting it out of there? I hate to see trials littered up, especially with stolen burnt vehicles  censored

That's my hobby. I will get it if I find it and it's not already gone.

I'd like to hear from BorregoWrangler if it's still there. It's all easy stuff.

You should download Google Earth (free) and you can check out the area. Even Google Map online is pretty good.

BTW, there are other vehs I will be going after. Maybe one or two at Pancake after the cleanup this wekeend instead of Bronco Peak since I won't fit on Bronco.
