Without trying to say anything bad....

Don't waste your time.

Expensive, way over-priced and he won't sell a part of a complete unit, i.e., Jimmy needed a lever off a heater unit, he wouldn't take one of a wrecked Jeep, he would only sell him a complete HVAC unit for $125, passed on that one.. If you're in dire need of an extremely hard to find part he may be worthwhile, but otherwise, shop around

If you get to know him and become a regular you can get some deals, but you'll find better bargains on Craigslist or junkyard finds or even Scotty;s up in Fontana
.
But, he will bargain somewhat when the $$$ comes out

He's charging anywhere from $1000 to $1400 for a standard TJ D44 depending on his mood.

Have you considered and 8.8 or a D44 from something else. Good welding skills and some FYI time can save you a bundle

ya. I was actually think about that setup. I'm saving up for wheels, tires, lockers, front and rear axels, and metal to make a suspension lift. I know it is a ton of money. I just want to get all the stuff bought so I can just go to town and get everything done at one time.

There's a rumor going around that you might be able to do a little welding and have access to some fab stuff  ~clown

8.8's, 9"ers, D44's or '60's, a 609, tons of possibilities that you can DIY for a lot less than buying a stock TJ D44. First step is figuring out what you want to do with the Jeep and so on, and then plan it out and get the stuff.

We'll be doing a half-price sale junkyard run on the last weekend of the month, you should come along, some great deals now and then. If you shop around you can do a nice build on a tight budget, won't be able to afford to drive it, but it'll look nice  ~clown

lol that rumor is correct. I want to do like truckhaven, corral canyon, superstition(mud hill) type stuff. I was planning on making a kit like jeffm1964 has. once I get more experience I would like to try the hammers if its still open.

build with those goals in mind, keeping in mind that different terrain will put different stressors on your suspension and axles. Truckhaven is going to twist you around, Corral Canyon like Bronco Peak will stress your axle shafts, Hammers will work everything over.

In areas like Truckhaven a long arm is great for the flexing but on some crawls in some rocks long arms can be a disadvantage. Big lifts (+4"s) are good in some areas, but in others a LCG lift is better. Add in the stress of larger, like 35"+ tires and so on...

Well, ya got some thinking and planning to do...
